I was told that I possible have pcos by my gynecologist and an endocrinologist but I was not put on any medication I have the symptoms especially the lose of my period. I am now in the process of having RYN and I was wondering when you have you have pcos is it difficult to get your approval from the insurance company I have Affinity Health Plan and I am scheduled for surgery on July, 20 2009 and I go for my pre-op on July 14 but I have not received my approval from Affinity so I was getting worried. I have faith that I will be approved I just really do not like the waiting game.
So if anyone can help me and give me an answer I would greatly appreciate it.

I would call your insurance company directly to check on the status of your approval.  Good luck!  My PCOS wasn't counted as a comorbid condition when I had surgery.  I'm not sure about now.  Anyway treatment of PCOS is typically with Metformin (if your also insulin resistant) or birth control pills to help regulate hormone production...that's about it.  Maybe since they're not 100% sure you have PCOS they don't want to treat yet?  Anyway...good luck with your RNY!  Don't forget to take pre op pictures & measurements!

Sherry,

I'm shocked that they went ahead and scheduled your surgery without the approval.  That was my biggest "waiting" hurdle .... my surgeon would not give me a surgery date until after approval came.

Stilll "rooting" for ya girlfriend!!

Having PCOS helped me in getting my approval for surgery since added weight in general can trigger PCOS symptoms and make them worse.  My insurance approved me fast and they said that my surgery had the best long term statistics for reversing the symptoms of PCOS.  Sending good vibes your way that you won't have any insurance problems.
