I feel great and I'm doing everything the natural way! :)

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the site, but I just had to come on here and post what I've been doing lately! I'm 19 and due to a huge fear of doctors, have had PCOS for about eight years, but just got it checked out about two years ago... not good. Anyhow, like everyone else here, I'm dealing with the weight, the bad skin, the hair, every little flaw that keeps us feeling like a prisoner at moments.

My doctor wasn't much help originally. She told me she didn't want me going on birth control and she wanted me to try things naturally first. My mother was irritated and determined to find a new doctor. However, I'm from Virginia and I go to school in Boston, so the time it would take to get me to a new one is just rather hard to do. So, I went on a search for a natural way of helping things and am feeling great today. So, I thought I would share with you what I'm doing!

First and foremost, it's all about the diet. We all know this, but we also know that doesn't change the fact that it is so hard to do anything about it. Ehh, I'm about 235 pounds and because I come from a VERY Southern family, clearly that isn't changing with them in the house, ha.

Something told me to get on youtube one day and research what I could do. I told myself I'd never become a Vegetarian -- I love my meat too much. However, after searching I realized I didn't have to in order to be healthy.

Since watching her videos, I got inspiration to do something. I went out to the store and bought tons of fruits and veggies. I got hooked and realized that there is something that could be done.. something I've always been told could help, but that I actually felt inspired to do this time.

Also lately I've been doing the following:

Drinking 1 glass of Soy Milk each day. (Soymilk is controversial because it has an Estrogen based substance in it)

Drinking 2 glasses of Spearment Tea each day. (This is amazing. I've been doing it for three days and can tell a difference in the hair growth on my face)

Taking "Black Cohosh Root" pills each day. This is a natural pill that you can find at your local health store/Vitamin shop/etc.

All three have something in them that lower testosterone and mock Estrogen -- thus reducing hair and helping to regulate things.

--------

I've only been doing the Spearment tea for a little while as well as the Soy Milk. However, with integrating the fruits and veggies... I feel bad when I pick up something bad to eat. It's all in the mindset. There are tons of healthy receipes, tons of neat organic and natural things that do awesome little tricks. It's wonderful.

The biggest change I've made though... is that I don't consider this a diet. When we do diets we tell ourselves we HAVE to lose the weight.. we HAVE to do this, we HAVE to do that. We often put ourselves in the position where we feel like we fail if we do something wrong and it just seems to be harder to do.

When I've gone into this, I watch Natasha's videos and I watch other videos and I see how excited these people are to eat what they eat and to live the lifestyle they live. It isn't about losing the weight anymore -- it's just about getting healthy so that I can live many years.

Especially Natasha. She's like a motivational speaker for me; I get excited about the things I'm eating now because I know that it has changed someone else's life and even though I've only been doing that for a little over a week.. I've lost 7 pounds and have so much more energy than I've ever had before in my life!

I'm excited for this and I wanted to share it with you guys. I'm hoping that someone who is still searching for a way to help take control will find be able to find comfort in these simple things like I did. :)

Just one more question?    Do you eat any meat and bread at all???   This I think will be hard for me.....  Is there any fruits and veggies to stay away from???

Thanks for your help.

I love meat and I love bread. Haha, I love basically everything that isn't good for the body honestly!

I've always been the one to cheat on diets because I just couldn't pass up the good food.

The transition into strictly raw, healthy food is definitely a hard one. I have kept a few of my basic habits of normal eating. For lunch today I slipped in some chicken and I had a piece of toast for breakfast yesterday. I, too, would have a very hard time staying away from these all together, so I'm taking it in slow steps.

I've found though that when you get pumped up and ready to do it, those things, at least for me, haven't been a priority like they previously were. So, eat your meats and your bread from the start and just slowly take down how much of it you consume.

Either way, I wouldn't beat yourself up about it if you do have such foods. As long as you're giving yourself your fruits and veggies, you'll still be making progress with what you were eating before.

Ha, that's what I keep telling myself. "Hey, I may have slipped with that piece of food, but I was eating McDonalds three weeks ago. Still doing better than that!"

As for fruits, we should be careful with our fruit consumption... make sure we definitely level it out with our veggies since fruits are often high in sugar. Diabetics should typically avoid Watermelon, Dates, Bananas, Grapes and Oranges.

However, those are all very important fruits that I love. For this, I eat those in moderation. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that those fruits... even if you're eating a lot of them... won't be any worse that the bowl of ice cream, the candy and cakes.

Speaking of which, I've been eating so much fruit lately... that I haven't wanted the bowls of ice cream, the candies or the cakes.

So, my suggestion is just to get whatever fruits you like. Switching to the foods is hard when we're used to putting so much crap into our bodies. So, do whatever makes the process easier for you.

Also, I'm rambling, I apologize. Haha, but before I forget... I would suggest getting fresh lemons to squeeze into your tea... or what I use is honey. Whether you decide to use organic honey or regular, that's completely up to you. However, the tea isn't the greatest. You will adapt to it, definitely. However, the first and second day... I wasn't feeling it and was second guessing my decision to try it. Keep with it! It's wonderful!

Also, anyone who is interested in getting healthy should pursue Flax Seed. You can purchase it in health food stores, or even in Walmart. I would suggest ground up Flax Seed, so that you can just put it in your smoothies and things of that sort. The benefits of Flax Seed are tremendous!

This in effect helps relieve constipation and other irritable bowel syndrome. Flax seed may also lower blood glucose and improve insulin tolerance (diabetes). Whole flaxseed (powder and ground meal) may also reduce serum total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

Studies show a diet high in ALA omega-3s helps reduce heart disease and stroke by reducing the build-up of fats in the arteries, reducing cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and reducing inflammation which is known to promote atherosclerosis or "hardening of the arteries." Studies have found eating two to six tablespoons of milled flax daily for as little as four weeks decreased the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Besides acting as antioxidants, lignans are phytoestrogrens — active substances derived from plants that have an estrogen-like effect. Phytoestrogrens can help balance hormone levels and block tumor formation, offering protection against hormone-sensitive cancers, such as breast, endometrium, and prostate.

Lignans also help treat menopause without traditional drugs by mimicking naturally produced estrogen, reducing or moderating pre- and post-menopausal symptoms

Fiber in flax is good for the heart, colon, and digestive health, and can ease the effects of type 2 diabetes.

The fiber in flax helps trap glucose and fat in the gut, moderating and easing glucose release in the body and reducing sugar spikes, which has a positive impact on both blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
The insoluble dietary fiber in flax can
not only help relieve constipation, but improve overall colon and digestive health. Diets high in fiber have been proven to protect against cancers of the GI tract, and the American Cancer Society (ACS) lists high-fiber diets as one way to reduce your risk of colon cancer, the No. 2 cancer killer in the U.S.
The soluble dietary fiber in flax can help lower blood cholesterol, reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.
