late hormonal shifts following wls
ok, i know... wls messes with your hormones. estrogen is stored in the fat cells and when fat burns, all that estrogen is sent surging through your system. after a long stall of losing inches but minimal weight loss, the scale seems to finally be moving down. i'm losing but my hormones seem very much out of whack.
i think the combination of pcos + hormonal shifts + pmdd= no fun at all. af showed up 2 whole weeks early! i was going through some bizarre emotions last week. i was crying for no reason- for hours at a time and getting extremely snippish over nothing. i felt like i was going crazy... for real. as in it's time to call my shrink and ask if i need to be comitted crazy. then af showed up saturday night, which explained a whole heck of a lot! but i am left wondering... i am ten months out. is it normal to still be having such dramatic shifts? i went through several months of readjustment in the early months following surgery when the weight loss was rapid but thought i had finally stabilized.

I am in the same boat also. I haven't lost any weight by my scale but I fit into clothing that I would never think would fit. Like today I got a pair of my daughters cargo shorts size 13 in juniors and to my surprise they fit. I was like OMG who would think those suckers would actually fit! I weigh 158 but I guess I have a petite frame. Pretty good I just wish the scale would go down with the inches. But oh well I'll take the inches. I'm like you though I"ve been having alot of hormone issues associated with the pcos and subclinical thyroidism. Its crazy am no longer diabetic or have HBP but now i'm dealing with this. Go figure......

Oh I'm so glad I found this thread! I am having the same issues! PCOS, PMDD and my hormones are out of wack! I had surgery a month ago and have already had 2 periods. I am finally feeling better and more "normal" after 3 long weeks! I too have lost inches but the scale is moving SO SLOW and didn't move at all for 2 1/2 weeks! Is this normal with the amount of hormonal issues? I am so glad you are feeling better and the scale is moving down for you!!! Being a woman is no fun sometimes LOL
If you had 2 periods your issues with the scale not moving may have been because of the bloating, water retention. I had my surgery on Monday 6/8/09, my period was scheduled to start between the 12-19th, and I just started yesterday. This morning I started to feel so light! I am pretty weak though, but was glad to see the scale move alot this morning.
Don't worry so much about the scale moving especially whe your losing inches. Just go with the flow. I know its so frustrating though. Get rid of the scale I know I had to. You get so sucked into it if you have one around. Things will get better you'll see.....
