Pregnancy After WLS?

I had two girls prior to my RNY, and they were 7 years apart due to PCOS. I had RNY for health and weight reasons and to help with PCOS, but had no intentions of having anymore children. Our youngest turned 2 very close to my one year surgiversary (down 105 pounds at that time) and my husband and I had a conversation about trying for a third once I was a little farther out from surgery. Well...so much for planning...I got pregnant INSTANTLY! I know have a gorgeous 7 month old son and he was my first non high risk pregnancy! By far the best pregnancy of them all!
Now, I have to be honest here though...I would never change a thing and I am so blessed to have him, however, I am struggling to lose the baby weight and that is how I found this site. Definitely worth every pound, but I just want to warn you that I am working very hard and it's only slowly falling off. It's very frustrating.
Good luck!

I too had RNY surgery almost 5 years ago. I also have PCOS. I had tried for 8 years prior to my surgery to get pregnant with no luck. I was found to be clomid resistant & I responded poorly even with injectables. I had just about given up on ever being a mom.
At 12 months post op & at goal of 140 lbs I went off of the birth control patch (which sucks BTW) and found that for the first time in my life my PCOS was non symptomatic and that I was not only having regular periods, but I was OVULATING! WOOHOO!! I had to finish some medication (not PCOS or WLS related) and was clear to ttc at 16 months post op. I charted my temps, timed doing the deed with ovulation and boom. I was pregnant the 1st month trying! I had a healthy pregnancy & baby in 7/06. Then I had an IUD inserted (love it!) and kept that as my form of birth control until 1/08 when I had it removed. Once I started my next natural period we tried again and boom...pregnant a 2nd time! Not bad for someone who didn't think she'd ever be a mom huh? Anyway I had another healthy baby in December and I'm just thrilled that I'm finally a mom.
Like the previous poster said about loosing the weight again....I found that it was not as easy as I'd hoped it would be following the birth of my first daughter, but the weight did come off and by about 6m old the weight was mostly gone (aside from about 5-8lb. This time at almost 5 years post op it's a LOT harder to get the weight off. I still have nearly 20lb to loose to get back to my pre pregnancy weight and 25lb to get back to goal.
But I do have to say that even though I'm holding on to about 20-25lbs they are soooo worth the 2 beautiful girls I have now.
Good luck!

One of my close friends had the RYN 5 years ago, after having two children before her surgery, and multiple miscarriages. After her surgery, she has had three more children and all of her PCOS Symptoms have subsided. Usually the wieght is a big factor in not having stable periods and therefor lack of ovulation, but once you loose weight, at a certain point you will regain normallancy.
With me personally I have not had WLS....yet, I am in my "very serious research stage" I too would like to have more children. I have PCOS and it sucks, my wieght fluctuates so much. I can look at food and gain 20 lbs. I am tired of the hot flashes, the mood swings, depression, the excess hair growth...... I am ready to live a life of happiness again! I have 1 beautiful 6 year old son, who was concieved so easly, then after 3 years of trying, found out the I had PCOS, I have gained 100 lbs. since his birth, just by the fluctuations of weight due to the PCOS, I have TRIED so many diets too. I seem to only gain more. I know that this may be my last hope is to have WLS. We have adopted 2 children in the mean time, but would still love to have another one of our own.
Good luck to you.

I have never posted here before but feel compelled to respond to your post. I too have only one working tube and ovary. My husband and I tried for 3 years prior to WLS which I had on March 30th. I'm down 63 pounds. I had my first "unmedicated" menstrual cycle 5 weeks after surgery. Then again 36 days later and now it's starting to regulate itself. I don't take anything other than the multivitamins and iron. I'm believing that the WLS will definitely restore my fertility and I'm looking forward to it. Looks like we will both have something to look forward to. God is good.
