Birth Control pills again
Hey all, I was just wanting to see if this is common. I was diagnosed with PCOS about 3 years ago. Just had Gastric Bypass in April, so I am a little over a month out. Even though I have been told that I cannot get pregnant - the Dr. who did the history and physical portion of my pre-op advised that I really should be pro-active about preventing pregnancy after having WLS. He stated that a lot of people have been told they cannot get pregnant, lose weight and then bam - literally pregnant.
I talked to my surgeon at my first post-op appointment and she advised me to speak to my PCP and yes I should get on birth control.
I just turned 39 years ago --have been with my husband for over 13years and NEVER got pregnant. I have always wanted to be a mother. I am fine with adoption. To be perfectly HONEST, I'm not sure I'd want to get pregnant now after having the surgery for fear of gaining the weight and not being able to get it back off. I totally understand not getting pregnant now due to my stomach only being able to hold 2 ounces. That is enough to sustain me but not enough to give nourishment to a baby.
I know I'm rambling but I just wanted to see if this is common and are my feeling normal? Thanks!!!!

Hi,
First wanted to say congrats on the weight loss so far!
All of your back and forth feelings are completely normal, especially given your age and how "older" women are so medicalzed when it comes to pregnancy even without surgery or weight issues.
Definitely go on the b/c now until you have stopped losing the weight so quickly and then decide on whether you'd want to try for a pregnancy.
A lot of women on the pregnancy board have said that the Mirena IUD has worked very well for them. Helped reduce periods, flow and intensity and been quite safe. Even women with PCOS. Maybe ask your doctor about it. I'm going to for after I have the baby.
Best of luck!
Alison
