what's going on everyone? I know i haven't been here in a while but i thought i would drop in and give a update on where i stand. As of this point i still have not decide what surgery i will do yet. I still don't know if my insurance BLUE CROSS BLUE SHIELD HMO OF ILLINOIS. will pay for it yet. All i know is that i went to the doc the other day and they went up on all my darn meds.  so here is the run down.

Metformin 1000mg twice a day (2000 mg daily)
Topamax i don't remember the mg yet its twice a day
Propranolol er 60 mg twice a day (120 mg daily)
spironolactone 25mg twice a day (50 mg daily)

i know yall lookin like go****s a lot the topamax is for my migraines yea i have them bad as hell.
the propranolol is due to the fact that i have high blood pressure and well the other 2 you know what they are for.

On Top of it all i am a nurse and i work 3pm to 11pm so most of my time is where ? the bath room this really sucks i need to do something quick help fam.

I know what you are sayin about being in the bathroom a s*** load.  I feel for ya.  I just started back on Metformin 500mg twice a day to help with ovulation and all that junk.  And I have been to the BR 4 times already.  And it's like pure liquid.  *sigh*  I hope it gets better!

I had the same problem and my Dr. put me on Metformin ER (extended release) that I took 1000mg at bedtime and that way, I just had the poops in the morning and not several times a day.

Call your insurance carrier directly and ask them if they cover WLS and if so what kind & what you need to get approved.

I had the RNY and was off all meds by 6 months post op.  I stopped my metformin 2000mg the day before surgery and have not needed it since and I'm 4.5 years post op.  I was weaned off of my Labetalol but for some reason at 2y 3m post op my HTN came back and I'm back on it but at least now my pressures are good.  I was on 100mg TID and pressures in the 160s/90s and now am on 100mg BID with pressures in the 110s/70s.

What are of nursing are you in?  I'm trying to get into a local RN program as i want to ****** RN...but so far there are FAR more applicants than openings...so I'm still waiting.

Good luck getting approved!

Hi, I know PCOS does suck big time!!!  I was diagnosed about 4 years ago and have been on Metformin for a while...more recently my doc put me on a combo dose ActosplusMet 15/1000mg 2x's every day.  They have found this helps with your insulin levels faster and decreases your cysts (at least that is what my doc said).
Your topamax dosage is probably 100mg, that is usually the normal dosage!
Anyway, I know that al the meds are crazy and they are difficult to take, but once you have that surgery all will get better within a 2 year time period and it will all be worth it!  Good Luck!!!

Oh man I had horrible flash backs to my time on Metformin--Thank G*d for RNY!!!

Also know that PCOS is something insurance companies know WLS (no the band however) will reverse the PCOS in a matter of months & they will usually approve on the first submission for approval provided your not going to have the band.

201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!

And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!

Surgery Date: 6/5/07

I have a big problem with nausia from metformin.  There are acouple of things you can try if this is also a problem.  First try taking 500 mg 4x a day.  I know you have to take my pills but it is easier on your system.  Also try taking it with ho****er, it seems to help prevent cramping.  Hope this helps.

I was diagnosed with PCOS 2.5 years ago when my GYN sent me to a reproductive endocrinologist to r/o infertility.      What I was told is when you are trying to get pregnant (and don't have diabetes- i was pre-diabetic) they place you on metformin to treatment the PCOS insulin resistance.  It worked well taking care of the ovulation, however after a few treatments, I didn't get pregnant and had to stop the treatments (issues related to cost).
I remember the  Metformin being HORRIBLE.   I literally had to miss work several days due to the non stop diarhea.    When I spoke to the MD they said the only way to prevent this was to stop eating white bread, pasta, refined carbs. and I have to say this did help a bit.
Once I stopped seeking fertilicty treatment, the treatment for PCOS was YAZ birth control pill and Sprinolact.  I was only on this for a few months, though, so didn't have a great improvement with Acne or facial hair growth or anything.
I can't wait until I have surgery and see the resulting improvements- not just with my fertility, but with the ongoing Acne, etc.......
