Hi everyone,
I visited my PCP last week to talk about WLS, and she mentioned PCOS to me after we discussed my periods and their frequency(or lack of, rather). There's is a possibly that my body is still simply regulating itself (Just turned 20 today =P ), but the older I get, the less and less acceptable of an excuse that is for my irregular, and 90% of the time, nonexistant periods. So we had some bloodwork done and I'm planning on calling them in the coming days to see what the tests reveal.
I remember when I turned 17 and my periods were still wonky: The first thought that came into my head was if I would be able to have children. I always told myself I'd like to adopt too, but just thinking of possibly not being able to have children of my own is just a little disheartening. There's always hope, I won't forget that though. So many miracles happen for women everyday :) I just read a post of someone who successfully had a little girl; so awesome. =)
Just wanted to mingle and get to know you guys. How do you handle something like that, knowing that in the future it will possibly be to struggle to conceive?

Hey there,
I found out I had PCOS when I was 16 I believe. I will be turning 25 the end of this year and March will be my one year surgiversary from RNY. I have been lurking around the Post Op Pregnancy forum and you will see ALOT of women on there that have not been able to concieve for years. Then after surgery they concieve at the drop of a hat. Then you also see women whom have had surgery and are still struggling to get pregnant. I was hoping I would be the one that after surgery I would be Mrs Fertile Myrtle. But no luck THUS far. Hubby and I have been together since I was 15 and we never really did anything to prevent pregnancy (sad I know). After my surgery about 6 months out I was naughty and stopped using any forms of BC. I think that I might need help concieving so I got my Doc to prescribe me Clomid. Hopefully one of the rounds will work. I would loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee a baby . Pretty much for the last 5 years or so I have told myself that I will NEVER be able to get pregnant. It never made it easier for myself thinking that. But then after surgery I got all optimistic and refused to think that any longer. I am not sure that this will be an easy process, it might be, but it also might be a loooooooong hard road. I guess we will soon find out. Anyway......... it's nice meeting you. And welcome! JULIA

Hiya Julia!
Sorry I took forever to reply, I don't always have access to the internet. :)
Congrats on your surgery and your success with it! Happy Surgiversary!
Oh yeah, I remember reading about the weightloss helping with some ladies being able to concieve, so that's a bit of a spirit-lifter. I'm so sorry that it wasn't the case with you. That's so sweet that you and your hubby have been together since 15! Way to go guys!
I've also heard of Clomid, will definetly look into it if I need it in the future. Good luck and I wish you the best! Im glad to hear you turned your mindset positive- that's very important! =)
Long or easy road, it'all be worth it. Don't ever ever ever ever give up and best of luck to you and your hubby! Don't forget me when it's time to share those baby pics! ;)
Nice meeting you too and thank you!

Happy Belated Birthday! Anyway I don't buy the 'you're still getting regulated' BS. At 20 you should be regulated. I was like you...never regular. I was a late starter and didn't have my first AF until I was a week shy of 15. Then I'd skip 3m, 6m...a year...finally went on the pill. I stayed on the pill until I was almost 20 and then went off in hopes of getting prego. Well instead of getting prego I stopped having periods all together and rapidly gained weight. This is when my PCOS really showed up. My DH & I went through 8years of failed fertility treatments before my WLS. We'd tried metformin to get me to ovulate...no luck. We did nothing and that resulted in nothing. We did Clomid and no luck there. We did injectables with IUI (interuterine insemination) still no luck. My body did not want to ovulate! Finally I had RNY WLS. After I stopped the patch birth control at 1 year post op I found that I was not only having regular unmedicated periods but...I was OVULATING! On my own even!! After 3 months of tracking my periods/ovulation on www.fertilityfriend.com we decided to ttc and was totally blown away when I got pregnant the 1st month trying. It was 9 years 4 months since we'd first started trying. I had a healthy pregnancy and baby. I then opted for an IUD and on 1/31 last year had it removed. My first natural cycle after having it removed we got pregnant again! I'm now the very proud mom of 2 girls who neither one would be here if I'd not had my WLS. I never gave up. I started TTCing a month before I turned 20 and delivered my first baby 3 weeks before I turned 30.
Having WLS when you have PCOS greatly increases your chances of conceiving. Good luck and if you have any questions I'd be happy to answer!
