Riomet?
Hello all,
I cannot take the regular sized Metformin 1000mg. They are just too big and cause gastric disress and we should not be taking Extended Release anything, so I stopped the MetXR. I have asked for and been given Riomet, liquid Metformin. Just wondering if anybody is taking it and if it helped with your weight loss? I have severe metabolic disorder..always have for 33 yrs, along with PCOS...my weight loss is slower than anybody I've seen...36 pounds at 3 1/2 months out. My diabetes is still full blown but under good control with meds and diet (my HA1C is 5.7)...however I still need evening shot (Lantus 40 u.) and oral meds, (Actos)
Give me a heads up if this is your story too....
Happy Day!

Sorry... I do not use Riomet. I just wanted you to know that Riomet is pretty uncommon, so you might not get any responses. I work in a busy pharmacy, and we only have 1 patient on it. So you might have better luck actually calling some pharmacies and talking to different pharmacists about what to expect with it. And I didn't want you to feel like people were ignoring you... I think its just something people don't use.
Hi. My surgery date was May 28th, so I'm a newbie. Neither my surgeon, my PCP, nor my pharmacist had heard of Riomet. But my Blue Cross advisor had, and recommended it to me, so I brought it up with all these people. I, too, had been on extended release Metformin (500 mg a.m., and 500 mg p.m.) What's interesting is that my PCP took me off Actos after the surgery. But I did start on the Riomet -- although I do believe I'm on a reduced dosage. My blood levels are good so far. But the one downside to Riomet that I have experienced is that it is the foulest tasting medicine I've ever had! I've learned to have a small cup of water with it. I hold my nose, take the Riomet, and immediately down the water. It's the only way I can get through it. However, better that than crushing a huge Metformin pill. Good luck! --Sharon
Hi Sharon! Its so good to finally hear of someone on Riomet. And you are correct...why they call it cherry flavored is beyond ,me..lol Granted it does taste better than Whey Protein Bullets, but not much!..lol I just "get thru it" or have on occasion put a dribble of SF flavoring syrup with it. I take 1 1/2 tsp a day divided...or a total of 7.5 cc.
I stop taking the Actos because my morning BS were too low, but I might start taking them again..maybe a lower dose, 15 mg. I am still taking 40 units of Lantus at night. I am however free of PCOS pain and I can tell if I miss a few days of the Riomet when my ovarian cysts act up. Best Wishes and continued success with your WLS...
