pcos, infertility and birth control

(this is a cross post from the RNY board)

I am a PCOS cyster.  I have been since I was probably 15 but i was officially diagnosed about 10 years ago.  Mine manifests itself in gut weight, male pattern hair on my chin, neck, chest.  Lucky form me i am very fair skinned so my body hair is blond.   I also have no-none, zilch, nada- ovulation.  I haven't had a period that wasn't drug induced  in about 10 years and before that the best I ever had was periods that were about 10 months apart.  Been trying to get preg for about 10 years too.  ( alot happened in 99, lol.)

So now that I have had surgery, I need to go on some sort of birth control so that don't get pregnant for 18 mos.  Just the sound of that is funny to me.  My past bouts with BC have been horrible.  I get weepy, and moody.  One time I bled for 45 days.  It's just not good.  I am wondering are their any BC's that you ladies have tried and had good luck with.  I was thinking about nuvaring.  not so sure about depo.....

thanks!

Hey!
I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 16 and I too have cysts and abnormal hair growth but I'm olive skin with very dark hair which I constantly pluck. I was on birth control since I was 14 so that I could have normal cycles. I got my period when I was 9. I was constantly nauseous for years until I started nuva ring. On nuva ring I do not have nausea but I do get cranky for about 3 days during the week before my period. So far, this is the best birth control for me. The only advise I can give you is... try it for one month. I don't even think I can get pregnant but I am not ready to try either.
Best of luck to you!

Nuva ring did me wrong and the patch broke my skin out... have been on Femcon now for a while and seems to be ok with me.... it's a chewable contraceptive... the only one as far as I know.

I haven't had surgery yet, but also a PCOS sufferer. Been off and on birth control for almost 10 years to have a period. Without BC I have no period. Been off the pill for a few months due to health problems and I haven't had a period since Nov. Before the health problems they tried to give me nuvaring because of the mental effects pills had on me. Why I'm posting though is I see you're post op, but I don't know how much weight you've lost, how flexible you are, etc. 20lbs ago I couldn't work myself into the pretzel I needed to get into to fully insert the ring. Maybe it's just me, but I couldn't do it and felt really stupid/silly because of it. You'll never know til you try though.

I am 8 months post op.I also have pcos and don't Ovulate. Therefore  we used condoms for a few months.I am down 100 lbs at this point.I think if I were to get pregnant it would be a miracle baby.I am no longer using condoms and I am not on any form of BC.Unless my new obgyn puts me on them.have a appt. next month.SO we will see.I am having problems with my cycles ,so we will see what happens. But I myself am not using anything.I didn't O before surgery ,and I am hoping I do now after. We have been married 8 years .So I am praying it happens.

Femcon does wonders for me!! I have had pcos (diagnosed) for 5 years 3 of which i have been trying to get preggers. I love femcon. no side effects no spotting. its very low dose. Since my surgery i have gone off the pill and have gotten 3 normal periods woohoo. they are getting more frequent. Had my first 6months post op then again 3 months later then again 6 weeks later!!

Good luck!
Rachel

My specialist put me on Yasmin (Ocella.) I've had great luck with that oneand i've been on it for years. Especially with the emotional part.

I'v been dignoised with pcos since i was 16! :(
Well I just had another fertility appt yesterday., and she wants me to get bypass surgery
I'm scared and don't know what to think!
The doctor should be calling me in 10 days to set up an appt to talk with him. On a good note i do know the doctor who will be doing the surgery, so that helps
Any of  you ladys who have had fertility problems or pcos have the surgery and get pregnant?
Are you happy with the out come of the surgery?

Please email or write back

with best wishes and much happyness to you all

Big Hugs
Teresa
