I got my period!!!!
Lately the posts on this forum have been a little discouraging, so I thought I'd share my good news today: I got my period!!!
I am so excited! I went off of birth control, and spironolactone a week before surgery on 10/14. I have waited, and hoped, and today I got my period! On my own! I am trying not to get too excited, because this could be a fluke (I normally get 1 natural period per year, but its usually in April). I'll be more excited if I get one next month, but I am still super happy.
Good luck to all!

Yeah!! Congratulations!
I hadn't had a period in 5 years, ever since 1 month out from my DS, I've had a period every single month!! Random intervals, but none-the-less every month! I can't say I'm excited, I hate it, but it's nice to know I could have a child if I wanted to.

Ahh the things that make us happy...
I have been getting my period about every 4-6 weeks since my surgery in September. Prior to that I was about every 3-4 months. My cramping has gotten less and I dont know if that is because I am having them more often or the side effects of PCOS are getting less.
Either way it is great feeling!!

Since you all are discussing periods i thought I would ask you a question.I started my period on the 4th.And 2 days later it stopped.today I noticed i was spotting again.Since my surgery lap RNY in april I have had a period every month but it only last 2-3 days at most and it is only spotting. Is this normal.I have an appt Feb 2 to see a new obgyn.I don't feel this is normal. This is the 2nd time i have restarted like this.Just wondering if my hormones are out of whack or if something more is going on.

I'm almost 7 months out. I've had a period every month since surgery. I didn't start tracking them until last month (December) so I don't have the exact number of days in each cycle, but I definitely can see that I am getting more regular as compared with before surgery.
The first few months post-op, I was pretty crampy during menstruation. But I really noticed during my December period that the cramps were really only noticeably uncomfortable for the first day. The second day, I was still crampy, but less so. And on the third day, the discomfort was so minor as to not even be worth mentioning.
Flow-wise, it was heaviest the first day, medium the second day, and the third day pretty light. After the third day the flow really tapered off.
I had this same thing happen in January. So it seems like this is my bodies new pattern. I took one Tylenol w/codeine on the first day, and it seems to have helped (really would have liked an ibuprofen, but oh well...). Second day I was still a little uncomfortable but not as bad as the first day.
If this is my bodies pattern, I am grateful for it, because it wasn't too bad. I'm grateful that my body seems to be getting back to normal.

Hey there I would like to announce I GOT MY PERIOD TOO!! I had lap RNY Nov 17th and I have not had a period since the summer time. I never keep track because they come whenever and however they want. They usually last about a month...Well it came on last week and this week it is gone....and it was not the heaviest either...am I going to be normal?? OMG I hope so!
Okay, this is a first for me, I got my period on Jan 3.
Got it again on the 29th.
That's a 26 day cycle. That's...um...kinda...normal. (A few days short of 28 days, I realize, but close enough in my book.)
This was the shortest cycle I've had post op. All the others have been over 30 days. This is reallly encouraging.
YAY!
