Cramps

Hello fellow PCOSers, I have a question for ya!

My surgery date is 10/14, and I am just getting off of the BC and Spiro, hoping that the surgery will help me have a period on my own.  My question is - does the surgery help with cramps at all?  When I get my period, either from BC or from my occasional natural period (once a year) if I'm not taking it, my cramps hurt so bad that I can barely get out of bed.  Before, my doctor had me taking 800mg of Ibuprofen three times a day for the whole period, plus 2 days before and after.  She also gave me darvocet, which I have to use for about 2-3 days,  because the ibu. doesnt take away all of the intense pain.
I am nervous about this, because of the inability to take NSAIDs after surgery.  Is darvocet ok?
Or, please tell me what I want to hear :o ) and that the cramps go away.
Thanks for the help!

I had surgery on 9/10 and have lost 46 lbs so far. I have had some weird cycling since and the cramps were okay.

I dont know what meds you will be able to take since you are doing the RnY and I did the VSG.

Good luck with your surgery!! Dr. Foote is great!

Sorry, I am so used to being on the VSG forum that I forgot to mention that that is what I am having, so your thoughts are even more relevant!
Thanks for the info - and wow - 46lbs in a month, great job!  I can only hope to have your success.

You can take NSAID's after the VSG. I dont think you can take them right away, but eventually you will be able to take them again. That was one reason i wanted the DS or VSG. I would ask at your pre-op appt how far out you have to be to take them.

Still, if there is anyone out there with something to add about cramps, I'm all ears!

Well, I'm not going to tell you what you want to hear.  :(  Sorry.

I had RNY, so I'm not familiar with what you can and can't take.  I can't take NSAIDs.  I have had completely irregular cycles for as long as I can remember.  But almost immediately after surgery I started a regular cycle and it has stayed that way (today is my 1st anniversary.)  On the downside...my cramps have been much worse than they were before.  But...they were not bad before.  So, maybe I'm just the opposite of you.  Basically, you go through a huge amount of hormone changes - so that probably somewhat explains the changes.  Good luck to you!

Well, thanks for sharing, anyways, even though it definately wasnt what I wanted to hear!
At least I know that there is a chance that things could get worse, and maybe I can talk to the docs about it.
And happy anniversary!!!

I had surgery in 2004.  I lost 160 lbs.  Prior to surgery I did not have regular periods without bc pills.  Then the cramps were nothing to really speak of.  Post surgery the  cramps have become painful and the moodiness... I guess I get the whole nine yards of PMS now.  I cannot take any NSAIDS.

Tylenol makes a wonderful product that is an incredible secret!  It is call Tylenol for Women.  It comes in a little purple bottle.  I have to have the pharmacist special order this product.  I won't start a period with out it!  I typically order two bottles at a time to make sure I don't run out!  You may not find that all pharamcist can order this product. It does exist.  It works wonders for me.  It takes away the cramps, irritability, the back ache.  I usually only take it for two days and then I can handle it all.

My question is does obesity in an way cause PCOS??  Just wondering as I hopefully will have lap banding and I have had some severe pain episodes over the last couple of years and now they say my insulin and lipids are high which I have never had before and that I may possible have PCOS. I have to see an infertilty specialist now as I can not get pregnant, but now that I am quite over weight/obese I figured it would be healthier for me to loose weight prior to even if I do further my trying of getting pregnant?? I know that obesity can cause infertility, but can it cause PCOS??  Thank You!!!
