Uterine Fibroids

I have been having a really bad period over 2 weeks now. Went to see my GYN doc and he found a fibroid the size of a grapefruit attached to my uterus,  It is pushing on my bladder and it takes me forever to pee.  He did a biopsy and it hurt sooooooooo bad.  He mentioned hysterectomy or just reomval.  The cramping is the worst and the blood flow is insane.
Anyone experience this?  If so tell me about what to expect please!!
Thanks in advance

I haven't personally had this, BUT I work for OB/GYN & we have patients all the time with this issue.  Most go with the hyst, if they are done with kids.  If just the fibroid is removed, it could grow back, that is the main reason women opt for hyst.  Also, just because you've had a hysterectomy, doens't mean fibroids won't grow, it kind of sucks.  We have one patient who has gone to Germany  twice to have a surgery not approved by the FDA, & they still grow back.  Poor lady, is in constant agony.  HOWEVER, just like any other medical procedure, only you can decide what is best for you!  I wish you luck & let me know if you have any specific questions.  Best wishes!!

Yes! I had this same problem.
My PCOS went undiagnosed for 20 years and finally I found an ob/gyn at a teaching hospital that helped me a lot.

I had 3 fibroids in my uterus, I had  non-stop, fill a pad in under an hour, bleeding  for 105 days so was severely anemic and the pain and lack of energy were keeping me in bed with 2 daughters to raise. UGH!

My options were total hysterectomy or fibroid removal w/possiblity of hyst.  My hubby and I had 8.5 years between our two girls and no matter how hard we tried we couldn't maintain a pregnancy.  No wonder with all that going on!  Anyway, I decided on the hysterectomy.  I asked them to leave my cervix but they took everything else.  I can't tell you what a relief it was.  No more pain, my energy came back and best of all NO MORE BLEEDING EVER!!!!!!!  It was the best option for me.

Unfortunately, it did nothing for weight loss.  I am still insulin resistant and fast approaching diabetic.  I am working on getting lap band in December.

Make sure that you understand the difference between full hysterectomy and partial hysterectomy and the advantages/disadvantages to each.  There is a real good reason to hang on to your cervix if you have always had normal paps.
