If You Are Overweight Don't Let Your Doc Misdiagnose You

I was diagnosed with PCOS several years ago and 140lbs heavier.  My docs refused treatment for my infertility until I lost weight.  Now, after losing 140lbs, I still do not ovulate and the only specialist in my region passed away in Dec.
Through ultrasounds it has been discovered that I no longer have cysts on my ovaries but still do not ovulate.  While the extra weight undoubtedly made matters worse, this was far from my only problem.
DO NOT LET DOCS TREAT YOU LIKE THIS!
If you are in a similar situation, do not let investigations into fertility problems end with a PCOS diagnosis and demand for weight loss.  Demand that further investigations continue while you try to lose the weight.  Please don't let anyone push you around or make you feel badly about yourself, and hence, feel guilty or blame yourself for your medical condition.
I don't mean to vent but I want to give other women out there a true story to base any "gut instincts" you might be having that the PCOS (or other possible fertility problems) are not all based on being overweight.
Being a mother is the most precious thing in the world and I want to help other women to empower themselves so that their dreams can become a reality.
Best of luck to anyone on a similar journey!

I too have PCOS and it seemed to take forever to get diagnosed. I heard the same old jive...loose weight! It is hard to loose weight with POCS let me tell you. This is a great post! I am getting WLS in hopes of bettering my health and hopefully getting a darn peroid! If I still dont get a peroid I guess I will have to try clomid again : (. Anywho keep in touch with your condition.

Good luck to you.
I get my period regularly but don't ovulate, not even on Clomid.  I'm glad you are taking control for yourself but make sure not to let your doctors let themselves off the hook either.
Best of luck!

Sorry to hear you have been treated that way by your doctor. I am so thankful I have such a caring, understanding and well educated OB/GYN. She is the best doctor I ever had, she is just the best wish there were more out there like her.

Sometimes you just put one foot in front of the other, even if you don't know where you're going.

Me too.  And you are close to where I live (relatively speaking).  Does she take fertility cases, do you know?

She is actually a fertility specalist. You have to be referred to her I believe, her name is Dr. Amimi. As I said she is just wonderful, in her early 40's and very understanding of everything, very down to earth you name it I can not praise her enough. Where abouts are you?

I'm in Thunder Bay.  This is good to know.  Thank you.  It is still quite the drive but at least in the province.  Something to think about.
Thanks again.
