Hi Guys,

I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that i might be a slow loser. How depressing put you life on the line and still barely losing weight.

I am wondering if other people with PCOS are slow losers and if there is a link between PCOS and being a slow loser.

Before surgery I could never lose more then 15 - 20 pounds and then my body would just stop letting me lose anything. This time I got to 30 easily and now it has taken be 5 weeks to lose 7 pounds. I should have lost at least double in that amount of time.

Thoughts, ideas, reading realted to the subject, Swift ones across the head?

All and any feedback welcome,

Catnip

First, don't get discouraged!  This will work for you.  I am 4 months post op and have lost 74 lbs since surgery.  Like you before I had to fight tooth and nail to lose any weight.  So now, though my weight is coming off slower than others, it is still COMING OFF!   Even if it takes me twice as long as the average patient, I don't care.  I am still on the road heading in the right direction!

Also,  The weight loss will come in waves.  Slow for a while, then boom! a bunch will come off, then slow again....so be paitent as your body adjusts.  we all go through stalls.

i am in your boat. i lost 22lbs in like three weeks, and then...nothing....i'm at 7 weeks and i've only lost 2.5lbs. a lot of my problem is being totally constpiated all the time...but it could be PCOS too. i dunno. i've been really upset to go through all this, and now be barely losing.
one thing i have heard though is that if your starting weight wasn't that high, you will lose slowly. "light weights" lost the slowest.

Both my endo and my surgeon said to not expect  a fast loss. I am 14 weeks post op (lap-band) and down 31 pounds. That's nothing compared to others, but a good loss for me. Last time I dieted I lost 17 pounds in 18 months. So, while I wanted to be down 50 lbs now (like others have) I tell myself that this is good for ME. It's not a race. It WILL happen.

PCOS can unfortunately cause one to be a "slow loser," thanks to the insulin resistance component of PCOS.  You can help bypass this by following a super high protein diet, and avoiding carbs like the plague.  If there is no glucose fuel in your body (carbs), then your body HAS to burn your stored fat for fuel, leading to weight loss.

I also agree with the poster who said the weight loss seems to come in waves, it has for me. The months of April-May I lost ZERO pounds.  But - I lost 14 inches!  Then, in June, I dropped 10 lbs, and this month I've lost 8.  It's weird the way it works, but just keep trying and stay positive.

I will be the first to admit that I don't know if its the cause for slow loss or not...  I lost 135 lbs in 8 months.  I don't consider that to be a slow loss.  I worked very hard at getting the weight off as fast as possible, and was very disciplined, almost too strict.  But, each person's body is different and we all lose at different rates.  It could be that you may  have more complex PCOS issues than another person.

I agree with the one who said, "Don't be discouraged."  You will lose the weight, keep on the course and you will be a success.
