My understand of PCOS is that it's a symptom of being Insulin Resistant a.k.a. Metabolic Syndrome X. (I don't have uterus, ovaries or a cervix anymore - so the doctors couldn't call what I had PCOS anymore - so they switched the name on me).

ANYWAYS - I have some bad news/good news...

The doctors determined I was pre-diabetic - and put me on Metformin and Byetta. I started this regimin when I weighted 316 (December 2007). Today I weighed in at the doctor's office and now weigh 272! That's a 44 pound weight loss!

Yes- I'm exercising. I'm eating a low-fat, high-fiber diet. I'm also working on cutting down on the number of calories and carbs I consumed. I've lowered both - but am working to lower these even further.

Anyways - just wanted to share my news!

The best diet or Pcos'ers is a low glycimic index diet, , its not ness low carb , almost like a diebtetc diet.  but whatever you are doing its awesome and working!!! congrats, i have the same metobolic syndrom its just a " new name"
also called insulin resistance etc etc
low GI diets work the best cause they dont spike your blood sugars causing you to over eat which is what seems to cause our weight flauctuations... i know so much about these weight regimins but cant seem to stick ewith them,,, errr

I'm doing really good managing my calories, staying within the recommended amount of fat allowed by my nutritionist - and eat more than enough protein and fiber. What I have trouble managing are my carbs. I hope the glycimic index will help me get a grip on that.

Thank you for the information! I'll have to take a look at a low glycimic index diet! I hope you're able to find the motivation to stick with the low glycimic index diet (or close to it).

The carb and glycemic index deal is different, if you go on amazon.com search for a book with polycystic ovarian syndrom or even online for advice and glycemic index.... theyre called " good carbs"
its super interesting
Does it seem like you still crave sugar big time?
I know for me the biggest problem i Have is it seems whenever i eat my mouth waters and i crave even more sugar especially when its a refined carb filled meal like pasta or white bread or such like that... then i crash and wanna sleep within an hour because my body doesnt seem to break down the sugar properly... i also dont sleep good at night and i havent been for over 10 years.  im only 26 years old.  I feel like im 60.   When i do a low GI diet, i am still alowed carbs, and lots of them theyre just good carbs, i eat tons of fruits and other things, but they dont seem to affect the levels or spike the blood and plumit the blood sugar levels.
Its really amazing.
Its super difficult to stick with out carbs in your life but with a low gi- diet its way mor feasable to live on.
I need to start again, I felt  the best i ever did in the short time i stuck with it.
good luck!
