help...constant spotting

I had RNY surgery on 2/12/08.  I needed to lose about 100 pounds.  So far I have lost a little over 50....a bit slower than I would like but I am grateful for it.  My big problem is that since about 2 month post-op I have consistently spotted on an off all month rather than having a true period....I am fed up with this but I really don't want to go back on the pill.  I keep thinking that with more time my periods will start to regulate.  I am considering making an appointment with an OB-GYN to discuss the situation.  Just wondering if others have experienced something similar.  I am almost 37 and I guess there is a part of me that was really hoping that eventually after surgery perhaps I would miraculously end up pregnant (I have been married 13 years and never used birth control and never got pregnant....I did adopt though).   Any words of advice?

Keep in mind that estrogen is stored in fat and as your fat cells shink this estrogen is released into your system which can lead to funky periods for a while until your body stablizes.  It might be worth mentioning it to your OB though so that you don't become anemic due to the chronic light blood loss.  As for birth control maybe look into the NuvaRing for a bit until you're ready to ttc (if ever) so that you don't have to worry about not absorbing enough of the pill for it to be effective. Good luck!

For the first 10 months after my surgery I had 2 full periods a month.  I tried 3-4 birth control pills and the nuvaring to try to regulate....nothing helped until I got down to a weight my body was happy with and miracously in Feb we decided we wanted to TTC and I went off of birth control my periods became regular on their own and a few months later I'm pregnant.  It's like Kristy posted estrogen is stored in fat cells so as your losing fat its being released back into your system which causes your hormone to get out of whack.  Once you get stablized you should be back to normal.  Good Luck!
