I was just started on metformin for PCOS and wasn't sure if it would help decrease the amt of facial hair I have.  Has anyone else noticed a difference?

some people notice a difference; some don't.  i didn't notice a difference when i was on it, but i was only on 500 mg daily.  larger doses do wonders for some people. are you on aldactone?  that's your best bet for decreasing facial hair since it is an anti-androgen.

No, I'm not on aldactone, but will look into it, thanks.  I am only on 500mg right now, but will be asking for my dose to be increased on my next visit.

I was on 2000mg daily before I had surgery and saw no help in my facial hair, fasting insulin levels or IR.  In fact after 4 years of Metformin I became type II diabetic.  Fortunately that all resolved itself after surgery.  Good luck!

1500mg Met helped cut back on my facial hair, but never took it away completely.  Since I had weight loss surgery, though, my facial hair is almost gone, and I'm no longer on met.

Preop, I was on 1600 mg a day and saw no difference in the facial hair.  Post op, I'm off the metformin, but the facial hair is reduced significantly.

I have been on Metaformin since 2001. I am naturally hairy type people. I am of mixed race. But I will say that in taking met, my facial hair and other hair (on arms and legs) has lightened up. It is not heavy looking or dark now. Remember , DON'T SHAVE IT!! Once you shave, it will come back full force.

No, I have not had surgery yet.  Obesity Law is sending out my appeal letter some time this week, and I should hear something back 3 weeks after it is faxed.
