Anyone here had the IUD inserted and have not had children??? My insurance covers it 100% but I heard it can be pretty painful if you haven't given birth.  I have never had a painful pap.  Which I know is totally different, but the nurse was saying some peoples cervix are more sensative than others.  SO i was just hoping  maybe mine isn't one of the sensative ones!!!!  Tell me about your experiences.  I'm going to get a sample of the Nuva Ring to test out to see if I  like it.  But I am still thinking that the IUD sounds better!

Personally, I have a Mirena IUD (& PCOS) and LOVE it!  One of the side effects is no periods, which is more common in PCOS patients.(& is awesome).  I've had my first one for almost 5 years & am getting ready to get my next one put in.  Professionally, I am a medical assistant at OB/Gyn office, there are only 2 FDA approved IUDs on the market, Mirena which is Levonorgestrel releasing over 5 years.  Most OB/Gyn won't put IUD in women who haven't given birth because uterus is small & it can be painful.  The most important thing is that you are aware that there is a higher rate if infection with any IUD in place.  (Mutual monogomous relationships are recommended.)  Personally, I haven't had kids, but am allergic to OCP's  (Oral Contraceptive Pills), so unless I wanted to use condoms for the rest of my life, (with my 11 year Mutually Monogomous partner), IUD was the way to go.  Of course, discuss everything  with your OB/Gyn.   I'm not going to lie, when I had it inserted it hurt like hell.  I told the doctor if it hurt like that to get that thing in, there was no way I was ever having kids!  Anyway, one of the other girls who works at my office had to hold me down to get it in.  (You should be on your period when they insert it, because your cervix is more open than when you're not menstruating.)  So anyway, I did have a veigle reaction to it, throwing up, sweating & had to lie down & get oxygen (at my office).  But it only lasted about 1/2 hour. (It happened because my uterus had never had anything in it & it was contracting & freaking out trying to figure out what to do.)  For the rest of the day it felt like someone had punched me in the uterus & I had to pee at the same time! -Really weird sensation. (I worked 2 jobs then, 15 hour day & worked that day, so it wasn't THAT bad.) The next day was fine & have been since.  Like I said, it's been almost 5 years & I'm getting my next one in very soon!   I hope this helped & didn't scare you.  Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any further questions.  Best of luck! -Sarah
