Looking for others with Intracranial Hypertension/PTC
Hi! I am 54 yrs old and was diagnosed with IH 4 years ago, by chance, from an eye exam for new glasses. I was SMO, weighing in at 328 lbs and was told I must loose weight ASAP so in August 2006 I had a VSG lost 85 lbs and in Nov 2007 had a DS and lost another 40 lbs, down a total 125 lbs., unfortunately I still have palpilloedema which means my pressure is still up. Obviously weight was not my issue. My neuro-optomologist can't find out what is causing it. Drug therapy of Diamox didn't help at all either. Fortunately I do not suffer from headaches so I get my vision field checked every three months and things haven't changed. Even though the weight loss didn't help my IH, it is great to be 125 lbs thinner and I haven't regreted my surgery choice. Just because it didn't help my IH doesn't mean weight loss won't help you. My IH may have been due to menopause. I may of had PCOS in my younger years because I had many ofthe symptoms I read about but was never diagnosed with it.
