thinking of BCP's

Hey all...so i have pcos I have had five miscarriages, and the first month after surgery I ovulated and had a period exactly on a 28 day cycle (first af since August). SO, i am thinking that I will need to choose a bcp sooner than later. This AF was AWFUL! Cramps so bad i couldn't move, and bleeding like crazy. TMI sorry.
I am thinking of Seasonel...the only thing that makes me nervous about it is the whole getting a period once every three months, I know that losing weight will help with getting the pcos to lay dormant, but do i really want to confuse my body that much? anyone on one of these types of bcp's with PCOS? I know nothing about birth control pills, I took it once in my life for 6 months after my last miscarriage because I had three in a row within a few months of eachother after they did the test where they clear out the tubes, can't remember the damn name of it! lol, too many tests! My friend is on Seasonel and she loves it, says that it makes her periods lighter and she used to have MAJOR periods and cramps. Also she has lost a lot of weight on it as well, and she was recently diagnosed with PCOS as well.
My Dr. said to choose an injectible, and I had never thought of this either but b/c of the malabsorbtion the pills could be less protective. The thought of injectibles scare me( too many bad stories I guess) but I'm going to ask my OB about a patch, sounds like a better option to me. Hope that helps.
i guess it depends on the person, a lot of people do the depo shots and stuff, around their surgery because then you don't have to worry about a pill and taking it and the mix with surgery etc....but i'll tell you, YAZ has been a life giver for me and my husband. I seriously have had such bad issues with my period, every PMS symptom times 10, and a month after taking yaz, i feel like i was granted a wi****he cramps are sooooo much better, the moodiness, the other issues that go along with it..i had it all...i've tried the depo shot, other combinations of estrogen and progesterin pills, etc, but i can't belive the difference with Yaz. Now i just need them to come out with those hormones in a IUD or something *lol*

i know two people who had HORRIBLE effects on Depo so I refuse to use that. I have thought about Yaz, but I don't get bad pms symptoms normally, this time it had been so long since I had a cycle and then I know I ovulated since I felt my ovaries hating me like I always used to on fertility treatments. I just don't want to go through THAT again! lol. i am doing some more research on this seasonel, and possibly the patch, I don't know if i would remember to change the patch, the pill i can just put in my pill thing for the week and know it's taken care of. I take my other meds at night before bed so if they have side effects, I am asleep! lol.
I had RNY. My gyn had me on a pill for awhile that was meant to be chewed, due to absorption problems. Then it didn't work well with my hormone problems, he changed me to Ortha Evra birth control patch. It worked well for approx 9 mos or so. Then I started having periods every 2 weeks!
So he let me try NuvaRing while I got the Mirena approved through my insurance.. I did it for one month and I really liked it, and considered staying on it. But it came out and ended up on my quilt the other night just two days before I was supposed to take it out!? What?
Anyway, I just got the Mirena put in yesterday. Cramped really bad, but my threshold for pain is very low.... the gyn said he did not want to try the depo provera shots since it causes weight gain and after losing all this weight, he knew it would be a hard time for me mentally.
So far so good on this Mirena... we'll see. good luck to you !

Mirena is the IUD right? Yeah I want kids, but don't want to try again until i have at least gotten somewhere near my goal, I am thinking 12-18 months I would start trying again, that way I have eliminated one of the reasons I am being told I keep having miscarriages, the PCOS should lay dormant with the weight loss and my other issue is with my Uterus being heart shaped so that way I am not undergoing surgeries on my uterus before losing weight...would rather that be the last option than do it and then have to wait 6 months, have my band and then wait another 12-18 months for weight loss. So this way i can get the uterine surgery if that's what i need as soon as they establish that that is the problem. it's just another one of those this or that games. At least I will be thin and healthy and have energy to run around with my kids now, right?! ugh....lol
Thanks for all of your opinions though! I am going to make an appt with my dr this week and see what she thinks, i was on the ortho lo, but i really didn't see a difference with my period being shorter or lighter, and I can't go through last months' again, that was insane, cramping was SO bad I had to curl in a ball with a heating pad.
Try Diane, It is a BCP but also has Novotone (i think that is the name of the chemical) in it which helps with some of the other side effects of PCOS (like facial hair and acne) it destories the excess testosterone in your body. Just remember it takes your body three cycles to normalize when first taking any BCP. Don't gauge your bodies reaction by the first period you have on the stuff.
Good Luck
