Wicked PMS

I just had my first post op period and i had terrible PMS, which is very unusual for me!  I was horribly crabby and I had such a bad back ache that I could hardly stand upright and my breasts were so sore, it hurt to wear my bra.  This is totally new to me.  I mean it is the same usual PMS, but like on super steroids.  Anyone else have similar experience?

Hi Amber, same thing happened to me dear, my first few post op periods were rough, horrible pain, numb legs (a PMS symptom for me) and roller coaster emotions.  Plus, within a few months after WLS my periods became regular again for the first time in almost a year.  Only thing I can think of is that I've heard when you get rid of a lot of fat at once it releases estrogen (which loves to live in fat cells) and that you get bad hormone surges.  Plus if you have PCOS you might be popping cysts when you get your period.  I've heard after WLS your PMS gets wicked until your hormones even out and I know I've had the worst crying spells  of my life with my PMS lately.  Hang in there sweety and call your OB if you get too concerned, maybe a little prophylactic BCP might help?

I have been very irritable as well.  After reading the message boards, I decided to go back on Metformin and the pill, trying Yaz to help manage my mood.  My period regulated itself before the surgery, after I stopped the pill for a month.  I've had two since surgery, and they were pretty regular.  I hope also that the hormone surges level off, for I am a beast to everyone at work.  Nothing makes me happy, and I am always snappy.
