i think i have PCOS
This is the second time in the last few years that I started bleeding and it didn't stop... the first time the dr put me on birth control pills and it made it all ok. This second time the Birth Control pills didn't work, and i've been bleeding for about 10 weeks straight, it's not just spotting either, i even get menstral cramps along with it, so it's quite heavy. The first time, my doc said 'you may have cysts' and that's all he said, and i just kind of shrugged it off because i'm USED TO getting those boils/cysts in my groin area! this time my dr said he's going to send me to a gynocologist to get a DNC, but during all of this, he has never mention the syndrome of PCOS.. my dr may be useless, the jury's still out lol... i have skipped periods before, but never had them go away for years at a time, like alot of y'all.. Anyway, my BIGGEST question is, will the VSG work for me, since i have sooooo much trouble losing weight? my second biggest question is do you guys think i have PCOS? and the third is, is there any treatment that will cure the weight problems associated with PCOS? thanks for any help you can give me, and i'm so glad i found you guys! cheers, elaine
I am not a doctor but everything you just described is ME! I was diag. with PCOS about 7 years ago. Shortly after that I did not have a period for over 1 year straight. Then all of a sudden SWOOSH....the flood gates opened and I bleed for damn near a year straight with a few days off here and there. I get really bad cramps with the bleeding too. I also get the boils/bumps in my groin area mostly my inner thighs, and also on the back of my neck around my hair line. I have a full fledged beard that I must shave once to twice DAILY. And the hair on my head went from super duper thick and wavy to thin and brittle. I never in my life had acne but now I do. There are some doctors who are not educated with PCOS and I suggest you find one that is. There are some different medicines that can Help, not cure as there is NO cure. But after much research from my doctor and myself gastric bypass is the BEST way they have found so far to Control PCOS symptoms. I can't wait until I get in for surgery, as PCOS is a living hell. None of the meds worked for me at all. I hope you can find a good doctor that can treat your PCOS. Blessings

God is good!
I have had PCOs for about 10 years. The last couple of years I have taken spironalactone, which is good for me at keeping my period regualr as well as just having it once a month. My advise is to see an endocrinologist as well. But I had the RNY and my periods are a little lighter and the hair on my face grown a little clower but it will always be there I;m sure. The deal with PCOS is that it makes it harder for you to lose weight. Thats the problem, its all about insulin levels and stuff as well. The problem is that it makes your body think you are ovulating but you really are not. Its a strange thing, my sister also has it. We both are over weight and we both have one child but she got hers later on after she had her child mine was prediagnoses when I was in my twenties, and I was able to ave a child using fertility drugs. Mr Surgeon says that the PCOS symptoms may eventually go away and it will be easier to have a child, however when you have the surgery and you lose weight a lot of the factors that cause this go away. Its a crap shoot at times.
Good Luck!
