I had my RNY/LAP in Jan of 2007  ..as of today I have lost only 85 pounds. Six months after my surgery (last summer) I had to have emergency surgery due to massive scarring and a large diverticulum. Now I have always been one of those women who was right on the money with her period. The day of the emergency surgery I started that mornng and it ended the next day and I have not seen "Flo" for going on a year now. I have pains on my lower right side where I know I have an ovarian cyst..it lets me know it's there ..always!   It will even wake me up at night and I now have too much hair on my chin. Now remember ..I never had problems with my period before.   I have only lost 23 pounds since last July and I follow the program..I'm very very careful about this. Even my doctors think the surgery was a failure..and they are looking into a revision. My question to you is this... Do you think the issues I am having with my period just suddenly stopping and the pain of the cyst has anything to do with the lack of weight loss? Now I was a slow loser from the start...but I lost something. I'm waiting for results of a ultrasound I had a few days ago at this point. I wanted to check with you ladies since this is all new to me and the doctor I have now...isn't sure this is the cause or that the surgery I had wasn't for me. I'm in my mid 40's..(keep that a secret! lol) Please tell me what you think.

you should consult with both your surgeon and your gyno you could have any number of things wrong in there, and us guessing is pretty much wasting your time really... we arent doctors, you need tests  for instance I had a bad period last month and went in, turns out I have fibroid tumors (supposedly harmless just really painful) so it could be anything, not necessarily bad
Wyldethang I LOVE my RNY!!!  Magick Happens, just BELIEVE! Namaste

I am under a doctor's care and awaiting results. But what I'm really curious about is this.....if you have an issue with PCOS or "female" problems...could this be a cause for not losing weight? My particular doctor is stumped on this.    I was just wondering if any of you might share some of your insight on this subject. Let me make this clear...I'm not looking for a diagnosis as I am aware you aren't doctors...but life experience has much to offer! Thank you for any assistance that may come my way.

Hi. I have PCOS. Before wls, I could not lose any weight. I actually gained the more I exercised. It was awful. I hear that with a lot of women that have pcos, they can't lose weight.  If you haven't had your period in a year, that is one sign they use for menopause. At least that is what my old Dr told me when I went over a year without a period. And I was only 25!!  Are you eating any carbs? Carbs are very bad for people with PCOS.  I think if I were you, I would do the 5 day pouch test and take provera to get my period, just to see if the pouch test would jumpstart any weight loss. Of course see my Dr. I hope you can find out what the problem is and fix it.

You can get a test at your Gyn's called FSH (Follicule Stimulating Hormone) & it can tell if your pituitary gland is producing the correct hormones for ovulation.  It can also tell what stage of  "womanhood" you're in. Hope this helps.
