When I was having trouble getting pregnant an ultra sound showed that I had POC, they put me on Metphormim and clomid, I concieved two years later, they took me off the met, and never told me that I should stay on it.  For years I have felt like I should be in a circus as the bearded lady, I have so much hair on my chins that I have started to shave, I had no idea that P****aused heart disease and all that other crap.  Can someone tell me if when I loose all the weight, will the hair on my face go away, even some, will the hair on my head get thicker?  I feel like crying, that no one told me about this, what the crap are doctors for, here we will help you get better, but the disease that you have will probally cause you to die before your baby is in college.  Anyone? Hi Kyym,  Unfortunately there is no yes or no answer to your question because all of our bodies react differently after this surgery.  THere was a study done by the University of Pittsburgh done in 2005 that showed about half the participants in the study had reduction in hair growth a few months after having Roux en Y gastric bypass. I could email you the study if you would like. It is was helped me make up my mind about having this surgery. It also states that nearly all PCOS symptoms either lesson or go away all together.

Hi, new here, but i'd love to get some more information on the inpact of bariatric surgery with PCOS. I'll be having my surgery within the next two months, and have struggled with PCOS my whole life of course. Looking forward to ANY improvement!!!

Awesome, thank you! I've heard that with the DS the results are the same or better. Maybe something to do with the insulin resistance?

maybe.. I don't know.. I am having the RnY. my surgeon said I am not heavy enough to warrant a DS... But Lap Band would probably not work as well.. so with his help I chose the RnY. and then I found this study which made me feel good about my choice :) Dona.. surgery scheduled May 20th 2008

Yeah, i kinda let my holiday weight go a bit crazy so i could be heavy enough for the DS. I think a lot of the surgeries are good! but i have so many constipation issues, the idea of moving around and shortening the intestines was just what i wanted. i'm actually more concerned about that than stomach size! So, hopefully, it will work out.  it's all about what works for your body and your lifestyle, right? right! May 20th is coming up!! how exicted are YOU??? *lol* i can't wait and i don't even have a confirmed date yet!!

I have PCOS too and I have alot of facial hair that I have to shave to keep it under control. So far as of yet it has not gotten much better, but I'd rather deal with the hair and thankfully have all my other symptoms of PCOS gone.  The only other downside for me is that since surgery Aunt flo is a very regular visitor!

I haven't had any reduction in facial hair. I tried Vaniqua and  I tried laser hair removal a couple years ago at my dermatologist office with no luck either....I may try laser hair removal again now that my hormones are back to normal with monthly cycles coming back after 19 years.  I heard the only permanent means of getting rid of hair is electrolysis

I am starting to see more hair on my face but I am waiting 'til I can't anymore.  But my mom on the other hand has tried it all.  She had to start shaving at 28 and she is now 56.  SHe was going to start lazer therapy but my dad got sick and now she can't afford it.  From all that I've been told making the hair follicle 'disabled' so to speak is the only real hope.  But as you can see in a prev. post lazer didn't work for that person. I would try lazer therapy anyway... Just my 2 cents.
