Period is here...and it started on it's own! No drugs required

I am very excited about this. I have not had a period in a while and today, out of nowhere...BOOM there it is!!! I am a little over one month post op from lap band surgery, have lost 27 lbs and have been exercising everyday for two weeks. I am sooo excited. You see, since the age of 16 I have not had regular periods and recently (about 8 years ago) found out that it was all because of PCOS. I have taken BC pills, provera and other drugs to make it come on (Dr. said I needed at least 4 per year) but have NEVER had it start on its own. This is almost too much!!! It really is the best feeling ever!!! As a woman (and I am sure that you all know this), there is something truly missing when you do not have regular cycles. In addition to the risk involved, there is a mental thing that goes along with it.

I have tears as I type this because this gives me hope in conceiving. It is something that, before WLS, I did not even fathom. Thanks for letting me share my excitement.

Yea!!!  I'm so happy for you!  I too remember shedding tears of joy when I first had my non-medicine induced AF.  I shed even more tears when I got pregnant for the 1st time after 9 years & 4 months...and it was my first month trying!  I really hope that when the time comes that you have an easy time getting pregnant.  Congrats on your 27lbs...keep up the good work! WOOHOO!  Kristy

Congrats to you!  On the loss and the "arrival"!  I remember the feeling like it was yesterday.   Since surgery, mine has been arriving every 30-36 days like clockwork. Best of luck!!

Thanks so much! I know it sounds funny but I can't wait to have it "arrive" like clockwork every month. I would have never thought in a million years that after such a small amount of weight loss, this would happen. I am glad that it did!!

Isn't it amazing the things that excite us?  Every new thing feels great.  Wait until you start having some more "firsts"!  I take nothing for granted and try to relish every little thing.

WOW! I'm amazed to see someone else had this very same experience just one day before me! I came to this board to post a quick note about my first "drug-free" period, and I saw this post already here! I also have, essentially, never experienced a "normal" period without the help of birth control pills because of my PCOS. Unfortunately, my GYN took me off my pills about 4 months ago, when he discovered my high blood pressure. Needless to say, I haven't had a period AT ALL since then. But today, 5 weeks post-op (gastric sleeve) and almost 25 pounds down, IT HAPPENED! I couldn't believe it! I'm only 26 and not looking to start a family any time soon, but I know I definitely want that for my future, and I have been very unsure of whether or not I will ever be able to get pregnant. Reading some of the success stories on this board and others have been very inspirational to me, and getting my period today has given me even more tangible hope that I may, eventually, be reproductively normal! WOOHOO!

WOOHOOO!!! I read that you had your surgery on 2/25 and mine was 2/20. Plus we have both lost over 25 lbs! How ironic is that? Plus...we both have our periods and are raring to go!!!! Tooo funny. I am happy for you as well and I am sure that in the future, when you do decid to start a family, you will be an awesome mom. We are on our way to skinny town!!!!

Stay encouraged!
