Hello my daughter was diagnoised with pcos about 2 years ago. The only reason how we found out is because, she took a physical and notice through blood work her sugar was a little high. Other than that she really has no symptons. She is now 22 and she has stopped taking her medicine. She is a big girl,6 ft 230 pounds. When she was on the med she lost weight. Question if she really doesnt have any symptons should I keep badgering her to take her meds. Also should we get a second opinion, I think her sugar level was like 120 (the dr. noticed during bloodwork) I guess they can see what a person blood sugar was for a couple of months on a person. I hate the fact that she has to be on all this medication, and secondly I fear that she may not be able to have children. I try to do research on this diease. But I am still at  a lost. I will take any advice and support,

Since this board isn't very active, you may find better information at soulcysters.com  it's a great website with tons of info and also has a message board where you can read posts.    Good luck to you and to your daughter. Having PCOS isn't a death sentence, many of the issues brought on by it can be controlled by losing weight and not everyone who has it has the same symptoms, in fact, there is quite a big range. Many people do not take medication at all. I have PCOS and I'm 23 and have been through fertility treatments, so if you have any specific questions, let me know!!  -Miki

Hi Wendy!  I'm no expert, but other than her sugar being elevated, what else make the doctor suspect and diagnose PCOS?  Excess/agressive facial hair, dark ring around neck, irregular menstraul cycle, infertility, etc?  I'm curious.   For me, medication (Metformin) regulated my cycle and removed the dark ring from my neck.  Hopefully, with the weight loss, I will be able to have children soon.  Let me know if either of you have any specific questions.  And the site that the young lady above recommended is excellent.

Hey,

I take my hat off to you for trying to get her straight NOW not 10-15 years from now. I sure wish that my mother had done the same. She feels really bad about it now but I tell her all the time, it was not her fault that this happened so there is no reason to feel bad.

Anyway, although I hate meds, it is probably her best bet to keep taking them. The doctor put her on them for a reason and until she is doing better she should probably stay on it. I hated taking my metformin but did because that is what I was told to do. I did not see any change though and talked to my doc one day and explained. That is when weight loss surgery came into the conversation. I mean, my weight was skyrocketing even on the meds! Anyway, talk to her doctor and maybe some other doctors to see what they recommend.

Hope she is better soon!
