PCOS and TTC...just an FYI!!

I posted this on the pregnancy board also but thought I would let you guys know also.....I have had PCOS for around 14 years...diagnosed about 7 years ago.  TTC for years with metformin and clomid...never ovulated.  About 5 months after my RNY had an ultrasound which didn't show any change at all.  Ovaries were much larger than they should be.  So I was getting heartsick since I was having cycles 2 times a month and would probably never be able to have kids as previously I was told I would have to do invitro.  Well, yesterday I went to see my ob/gyn with the intentions of having an ultrasound and a biospy.  The ultrasound tech said everything looked PERFECT and I even had a FOLLICLE...OH MY!!! That never even happed when I was on clomid and metformin years ago.   My ob/gyn said that my follicle is at a 2 and when it gets to a 2.5 or 3 thats when it burst and the egg is released.  She said if your TTC you need to do the business starting last night and all this weekend.  So we're trying this weekend..fingers crossed.  But I just wanted to let anyone know who has PCOS that this surgery and losing the weight really does help.

Oh Tracy, I'm practically crying tears of joy for you!!!  I am pretty much in your shoes.  Have been TTC for so long I've almost stopped counting (10 years +.)  Best of luck, I hope it happens for you this weekend, and if it doesn't, remember your body is finally doing what it's supposed to, so it could happen any time!!!  :)   I'm 5 months out from surgery, but am already noticing regular cycles.  My doc originally said I'd have to wait until 18 months after surgery to TTC, but I'm hoping she'll give me the OK at 12 months if I can show that I'm at goal and maintaining.   Good luck, I'm sprinking baby dust your way!

I'm so glad that its doing finally what it's supposed to.  I hope it happens this weekend too but if it doesn't we know it should happen sooner or later.  Hopefully sooner than later.  My doctor originally said 12-18 months.  So April will be 12 months for me.  So I figured one month early trying wouldn't hurt.   I'm just wanted to let everyone know that this surgery and losing the weight does help with the PCOS.

Very cool!  I too can attest to the RNY & subsequent weight loss helping with fertility.  Prior to surgery I never had cycles.  I'd even gone through 8 years of various fertility treatments with no luck.  Well at 16 months post op we decided to not use protection...boom...I got pregnant.  I had a healthy pregnancy & baby.  She's now 19 months old and we've just started to ttc #2.  I'm at the tail end of AF so in about 7-10 days I should ovulate...hopefully we'll be just as lucky with this one as the last. One more note...I delivered my DD nearly exactly 10 years after we'd first started to ttc.  I was almost convinced that I would never be a mom...until I got pregnant of course.   So...although I don't care for my PCOS...I LOVE my RNY. Also...even now at 3.5+ years out...my cycles are still regular! Kristy

This is all so wonderful to hear. I had RNY mainly so I could lose weight to have a kid. I can't wait to be in your shoes, girlie. It is so exciting. Keep us updated.

I had RNY to be healthier but I also wanted the option of having a baby too!  So now I'm sooo much healthier and we are now ready for a baby.  I'm hoping this month will be the month.  I will keep everyone updated.  I should know something in about a week and a half.  I'm on cycle day 23 today.  So I won't test until cycle day 30 or so unless AF comes.

Well I guess this month it just wasn't meant to be.  I started 2 days early and it's an awful AF.  Maybe April will be my month!  But I am super happy that I am actually ovulating on my own.  Last month I did OPK's and they were positive.  So this month I am going to try OPK's again and I ordered a BBT...I think I'm gonna try to chart my temps.  If I can figure it out...lol
