Missed a period
My PCOS was always rather bad I think, I never EVER got a period without inducing it with Provera or BC pills.
Day of surgery, I got my period and then every month following I'd get it again, though it was 34 days later or 37. It would fluxuate, but I didn't care as I was thrilled to be getting my period at all after never getting it on my own.
Well, this time, nothing and it's been 6 weeks since the last one. :( I even took a dreaded pregnancy test to be sure that wasn't the cause. I really don't want to go back to the way things were.
I'm so sad about all this. :(
I hate using Provera...it makes me feel god-awful.
I hate being on BC pills. It completely and utterly destroys my libido and my husband and I hate that, for obvious reasons.
Is there a BC pill that won't do this to me? Anyone know?
Lap RNY on 8-21-07
I'm 5'2'', I'm 34 years old, and I have 175 pounds to lose!!
I'm on a tri-leveled pill...Tri-Sprintec, which is the generic version of Ortho-Tri cyclen...Any others made me gain weight and feel crazy, but everyone is different...This almost entirely cured me of my acne, and personally feel that it makes the excess hair lessen...I went off of it to reduce the risk of clots before surgery and felt the hair got worse until I went back on it...
However, if the hormones are what are driving you nuts, I have heard good things about Mirena, a newer IUD type method that can stay in for about 5 years, and people can get pregnant very soon after...I believe it has no hormones...
Good luck!
Hi Brandi! With having the RNY the pill isn't the best choice for us due to malaborption...it could be that you weren't abosorbing enough of the pill for it to be as effective as normal. Aside from using condoms every time just about everything out there is hormonal.
Do you have kids? If so you may want to look into the Mirena IUD. Although it's hormonal the hormones released are local to the ovaries & uterus to make you not ovulate & not build up a lining. I had one placed 3 months post partum (12/06) and just had it removed on Thursday (we're ready to ttc #2). I loved it. No muss no fuss. Some OB/GYNs will place it if you've not had kids...but most prefer you have as it's either 1. easier to put in with a slightly larger cervix or 2. the uterus is larger. But I'm guessing #1 because when I saw mine...it was TINY! Maybe at most 1.5 inches long.
Regardless. Good luck!
Oh yeah...one more thing to remember is that screwy cycles can definitely happen post op. Estrogen is stored in fat cells...as you loose weight this estrogen is released which can play havoc on not only your cycles but your libido as well. As you get closer to a 'normal' weight these hormones should level out and your cycles should normalize again.
