if any of you girls know of anything that could cause symptoms like pcos, scarred to go to the
docs to be told i cant have children, uhh sorry needed to vent.
Hey there,
I have PCOS and my first question is weight loss. I know that if you lose weight too fast that it could cause you to stop having periods. My PCOS is that I have facial/body hair. I can grow a beard, on my breasts and stomach. I also had about 2-3 periods on my own in a year. My ovaries are filled with cysts.
I just had my left ovary removed and before that my testosterone level was at 190 and it has now dropped down to 90 in 6 weeks. It should be under 76 according to my OB/GYN. There really isn't any one way to determine if you have PCOS, it is just many different symptoms that you have that would make a doctor think you have PCOS.
One thing they would do to test is an ultrasound to look at the ovaries and to see if you have any cysts on them and how many. I had one cyst that was 3cm. That is part of the reason why the ovary was removed.
I found out ofter surgery I had "Steroid Cell Tumor" from my understanding there is no way to test for it, and they don't know you have it until the ovary is removed. From my research there has only been about 100 cases reported so there is no "cure" for it.
Something else you could test for would be Cushing Disease. I know I tested negative for this, so I really don't know all the symptoms. The best thing I can tell you is go to the doctor and get the blood work done.
pcos could definitely be an option. it is a scary diagnosis, but the symptoms can be managed. it is also possible to have children with pcos. sometimes, it might be difficult but i know many women with pcos that have conceived with the aid of modern medicine.
w/pcos many of your labs will look "normal" but you may meet the criteria if you have cystic-appearing ovaries and signs of hyperandrogenism.
i frequent 2 very helpful websites, both for the medical information and the support:

please get worked up by your doctor; it will put your mind at ease.
My periods started skipping after I was involved in an auto accident... First it skipped over one month, then two, then three, etc... Finally after skipping 4 months, I had a period - it lasted 120 days. Along with facial hair, insulin-resistance & hair loss my doctor was convinced I had PCOS; however, I do not have any cysts in my ovaries...
Bottom line is: don't be afraid to get a check-up...
Amenorrhea is very common if you lose a lot of weight in a short period of time (you could also experience it if you have been overly stressed-out) , but you should definitely see a doctor to determine whether or not this is the case.
And a diagnosis of PCOS does not mean you cannot have kids.
You see things; and you say 'Why?'
But I dream things that never were; and I say 'Why not?'

pcod is a scarry diagnosis, but Ut doesn't mean you can't have kids, I was Diagnosed about 12 yrs ago, and I now have 3 beauuful kids, 1 I had previous to the diagnosis, but the last 2 were 8yrs and a loss of 70 lbs later the greatest key to this disease is weight. As with Type 2 diabetes etc. Good luck, and I hope this isn't the case, but pls don't ignor the symptoms for fear of the diagnosis, you need to get your health together and deal with the issues head on and you can reach your goals.
