Ok heres the scoop on me..I am 35 yrs old,  happily married to a wonderful man for almost 11 years and  been diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years ago.   We have been ttc for almost 8 years now.  I have all the symptoms of PCOS also, and thanks to this board now one of them even has a name ..as I see most here call it AN. (had no idea what that was) LOL  I have the beard action going on, mustash, some hair loss on my head, when it should be my chin..LOL  but anywho....about 4 years ago I was put on clomid for a few cycles and bam I got preggo, unfortunatly I did not carry the baby to full term...Dr seems to think that maybe I should of been on some progesterin to help with the hormones.  I have too much male hormones I was told.  But heres the deal....I am having wls surgery in hopes that this will help me to get preg and ease up the PCOS symptoms..I asked my obgyn about PCOS going away completly and she said she didnt think so even if I did lose all the weight... Ok so here I am at 35 right now, my Dr for wls  definitly says I have to wait 2 years out to try and get preg again..that will put me at 37, so then my obgyn thinks that my chances of conceving at that age will be slim next to none....So its like I am faced with this big delima and almost feel guilty that I am more concerned now with having wls, then ttc.    Have any of you out there gotten preg at 37??? Whats the risk of getting preg say a year out?? Any input or advice would so be appreciated!!! Best of wishes to you all!! Thanks for listening..

My surgeon recommends that we wait 12-18 months. But honestly, I don't plan on waiting that long.  I had the surgery 3 months ago and have only lost 11 pounds. I am very frustrated with this and the whole PCOS thing. I fortunately got pregnant on my first cycle of Clomid 4 years ago (way before the band). My doc says that I am a lightweight meaning many people end up at the weight I started so I will not lose very fast.

Hi there!  Welcome to the boards!  I too have PCOS and married to the man of my dreams for 11 years.  We too went through 8 years of failed fertility treatments (clomid, injectables w/ iui)...nothing worked.  Then...I had WLS.  At a year post op I got the sort of OK to ttc from my surgeon.  He said that although it wan't ideal I get pregnant...at this point it wouldn't hurt me.  Well...at 16m post op we went without protection...BOOM!  Pregnant!  I had a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby 10 years after we started ttcing.  You don't HAVE to be 2 years post op...although it would be ideal so that you have time to maximize your weight loss, adjust to the new you, and be able to eat a good amount of food to sustain a pregnancy.  I know LOTS of post ops who've gotten pregnant before the 2 year mark...heck...even lots of people who've gotten pregnant before the 1 year mark.  Personally...as long as you're at least 12 months post op...you should be fine.  Also, if you check the post op prego board...there are lots of moms on there having babies at 37+...so it can happen!  As for the risks of getting prego at 1 year post op...same as being 2 years post op with maybe the exception that you've not lost all the weight you're going to loose...and it can make loosing the rest of your weight harder once the baby is born.  But as long as you can eat well and are good with your vitamins you & baby should be just fine.  When I got prego at 16m post op I upped my eating to 5-6x a day (from 3), and I switched to a prenatal vitamin (the OneSource brand from Walmart) and took that 2x a day in addition to my B vitamins (B12 2x weekly & a Super B Complex daily).  I probably should have also taken calcium citrate...but I eat a ton of cheese so I didn't (still don't) and my calcium levels are good.  And if you end up being sugar sensitive (like me) and it comes time for the GD testing...see if your OB will allow you to do a modified test so you don't have to take in 50-75g of sugar that will most likely just make you sick.  I got to do a 1 hr post prandial test...so I had a fasting lab done...ate a normal breakfast...then tested again 1 hr later...since my levels were both normal my OB didn't worry about GD.  Good luck!
