PCOS and Lapband surgery

I had my lapband put in on August 22, and I have lost 23 lbs since the day of surgery and and 47 lbs overall since I made the decision to have the surgery.  I started out looking at RNY but ultimately chose the band and feel it was the right decision for me.  I understand that it will be a slower loss, which may be even slower due to the PCOS.  It is easier than dieting....I was always hungry.  For the first time ever, I have hope that I will become a "normal" weight and be healthy.  I have been very happy with my journey so far.  But you do have to make the best decision for you.  Best of luck to you!

Hi, lapbander who has lost 87 lbs since March.  I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years ago with high DHEA levels.  Haven't had bloodwork to see where they are.

Personally, the stats PROVE that lapbanders do just as well as RNY patients, just don't lose it quite as fast.  In studies at the 72 month mark, the amount lost is roughly the same.  I wasn't big on having my insides re-routed and that is why I chose the lapband.

No regrets here!

I'm very pleased with my Band so far. I've lost 56lbs since I started the pre-op diet on 8/16/07. (I've even surprised myself!) In my experience, with PCOS, low carb is the only way to go.

I was diagnosed with PCOS almost 20 years ago.  I had lapband surgery 14 mos ago and I have no regrets.  My period returned after 19 years of not having one without provera....shows up every month now like clock work.......not that I missed it.....but I have no doubt my body is better off getting one.

I love my band so far, I have lost over 20 pounds in 1 month and am on ZERO diabetic meds and my blood sugar has been perfect since. As someone before me said: "no regrets"
