All you ladies with PCOS and insulin resistance need to ask your doctor about Glumetza.  It is so much better than Metformin.  It is a new drug and does the same thing.  It is basically Metformin reformilated to reduce the terrible side effects.  Ask your doctor, some of them may not even know what it is yet, but it will give you a much better quality of life than metformin..Just wanted to share with my sisters!

I am on that. It is the same as metformin/glucophage. I thought this had the least side effects.

May I ask how you know when your PCOS is under control? I have been diagnosed with it but since my surgery  have been off the metformin. It has never seemed that scientific to me --in my case the Dr. says I have it but no one has mentioned it in  years.....Do I still have it? How do I know?

For it to be under control your blood sugars (from a fasting test) and that blood test where they look at your blood and can see if it's sugar levels were normal or not for the last 3 months...

Also, deals with your hormones levels and how they look with blood tests...

I refused the fasting test because of the high sugared drink they made you drink I knew it was going to be a very bad dump if I did so they looked at my blood work over two months time

I have never had to drink a sugered drink for any of those blood tests with dealing with PCOS or checking for type 2 diabities...

That sugared drink is normally used to check for gestational diabities when one is pregnant... and it is horrible... but I have never heard it used for anything else but that...

The drink was how I was first diagnosed with PCOS along with a battery of other test that were run on me in a PCOS study that was/is being done in San Antonio, Texas at UTHSC.  I ask my endocrynologist and he said if a patient isn't being tested with the drink in addition to all the symptoms it isn't a proper PCOS diagnosis. Perhaps it's just how all my doctors have always done it, one never knows.

You can have a hemoglobin A1C blood test that will accurately tell what your blood sugars have been for the last 3 months.  You do not have to drink anything to take this test.  Anything under 6 is considered fantastic.
