Contraception for PCOS

Is there a certain BC that is better for women with PCOS? Does having PCOS make any difference, I wonder?  I'm still looking over my options so I can have a good idea of what to ask my gyn about when I see her on the 31st. I know I need to choose something...but this is so new to me!!! I haven't used contraception in well over a decade for pete's sake.  I certainly want to pick something that will not cause weight gain...nor do I want it to slow my progress. That'd suck, y'know?! I already feel like I lose slowly. I don't want anything to hinder my progress, including my BC. So far I'm thinking of trying the nuva ring or the patch. I don't know which is better...any ideas?

Personally I'd go for the NuvaRing.  The Patch has soooo much estrogen in it.  I was on it for about 10 months after surgery and it KILLED my libido.  Also, the patch is not recommended for anyone over 200lb...so if you're over that you'll want the nuvaring.  Good luck! Kristy

I was put on Yasmin when it first came out and had great success with it. In the last year I've been on YAZ and it's even better, my periods are exactly 3 days long--no more no less. As the previous post said the patch isn't recommended for women over 200 pounds. And many OBGYN's who are experienced with PCOS patients won't put a PCOS patient on the ring, IUD or patch until after WLS and at least a 80 pound weighloss.

201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!

And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!

I was unsure about using the pill because I wasn't sure if it would absorb correctly. Isn't this a problem for RNYers?

For me....the Nuvaring works perfectly.  My OB/GYN would not put me back on an birth control pill because of absorption issue it could potentially cause due to my RNY.  We didn't want to run the risk of getting pregnant before my wait period. The Nuvaring....I personally can't feel.  and is very easy to use.  Hope this helps.

I should have read ahead. I thought there was an absorbtion issue...but maybe not all the time? I'm confused about this!!

i personaly would not choose the patch. for one if your over 200 lbs it isnt as effective, it has had so many law suits lately for killing people because of blood clotts. and i got pregnant on it. i dont know too much about the ring though. have you looked into the iud? or even the pill.

Yea, I realize now that the patch isn't an option. What have you heard about the pill not absorbing correctly? I haven't had kids yet so I've heard that the IUD isn't a good choice.
