Has anyone experienced a decrease in facial hair growth after losing the weight? For those of you who have had facial hair removed by laser, how many treatments will it require?

I didn't notice it getting any better...but did notice it stopped getting worse.  I haven't been able to afford the laser treatment yet...but someday would like them.  I'm wondering too how many sessions you need...

I've never had facial hair. But I do have chest, abdomen and neck hair. I am 6 months post-op from RNY. I've lost almost 100 lbs. My hair isn't getting worse...and I think it is taking longer to grow back. However, I am also losing alot of my normal hair...so we'll see if the abnormal hair starts growing back normal when my normal hair does too. I have heard from most people that their abnormal (facial, etc.) doesn't get worse after surgery but that it doesn't really get better. I tweeze or shave mine off because it isn't too bad and I am kinda used to it. Laser removal is really expensive and I think it depends on how much hair you have to remove over a certain amount of area. Good luck.

I am 5 months post op and have lost almost 90lbs. I do have facial hair and it has not improved. I have noticed that it has stayed the same though. Before surgery it had been getting worse. Most of my hair is light so I will not be able to do the laser treatments, but I hope to be able to do electrolysis one day. I've been told that it can be 3-10 treatments depending on the hair growth.
All of my other PCOS symptoms have improved greatly and the hair is really the only thing I have to deal with now so it's not that bad.

Hi Nancy, I'm sorry for the delayed response but I don't come on this board very often.  Ok, here's the scoop...  PCOS caused my weight gain and facial hair.  When I lost weight (217 lbs) my hair still grew but not as fast.  I am currently going through laser treatments and have had 11 so far... Every persons treatments are different and the amount needed differs also depending on density, color and fairness of your skin.  I probably have 3 or 4 treatments left to do but my facial hair was VERY thick and full (like a mans beard, side burns and mustache) and I shaved 1 or 2 times a day for about 20 years before having laser...  That said if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't hesitate one bit.  Since my first treatment I have had wonderful success.  I no longer shave and most of the time dont even wear make up (before laser the first thing I put on before ANYONE saw me was shave and put on thick makeup).  I am having some electrolisys done at the same time because some of my hair is now gray (I'll be 45 on Wednesday) and laser doesn't work well on light colored hair.  So, go see a reputable laser professional (I stress professional!) and get a consult, you'll be glad you did! If you have ANY questions feel free to PM me...  Good luck!!!!!!!!!

Oooops,  I forgot to mention the cost...  I'm in North Carolina but I also checked in San Diego when I lived there (about 2  years ago)...  I contacted about 10 clinics in San Diego and there were some that wanted money up front, others had a payment schedule which seemed reasonable.  The clinic I go to here in North Carolina has a payment schedule and it is reasonable.  I can't think about the total amount because it seems like a lot but if I think of it per session it's not so bad.  The outcome outweighs the cost for sure for me! Anyway, have a great day... just thought I'd throw that in there...

The cost is what Im wondering about. Because I dont know how muhc is too much. There is a very good clinic with an awesome reputation here in Va ( Tidewater/VaBeach ) area that my husband called for me ( I wanted for Christmas ) last year. I have hair that I want removed from my Neck, Chin,Side Burns and Chest.  They quoted my husband almost 6 grand...is that about right????
