Going off pill.....What to expect????

OK, I am 12 months post op, lost from 242 to 148 and I am about to go off the pill for the first time since 3 years ago when trying to get pregnant.  I still have the minor facial hair issue and stuff like that.  Should I assume that my body will begin ovulating or will I still have the PCOS issues going on?  My GB doctor says it cures PCOS in most patients.  However, 2 people in my support group tell them that it is not curable, that losing weight only helps with the symptoms.  I'm scared to death to go off the pill and the PCOS coming back.  I don't want to gain my weight back and that is when I seemed to start gaining - when the cysts started growing and I became insulin resistant??  I know you are doctors but if you could share you experiences I would greatly appreciate it.

I was also afraid to come off bc after surgery in fears that it'd come back.  Well...PCOS is genetic...and you'll always have it.  But with the reduced weight your symptoms should be reduced as well.  I'm asymptomatic (no symptoms) aside from the facial hair which will never go away without laser treatments.  I too gained most of my weight when I went off bcps just after high school...but this time...I didn't gain anything...didn't loose anything.  I maintained my weight within a 3-4lb fluctuation.  I found that I was indeed ovulating and had gone from zero cycles/year to regular 36 day cycles.  After 3 cycles we decided to not use protection and boom...pregnant.  I gained 30lb with my pregnancy & had a healthy pregnancy & baby.  My DD is now almost 14m old and doing great.  I've lost all of my baby weight except for maybe 2-3lbs and my cysts have not come back...neither has my IR.  And in July I was freaking out because I'd gained 4lbs and had my fasting insulin checked...nope...not the culprit...it was normal.  Turns out I was eating too little and had sent my body into conservation mode.  As soon as I increased my caloric intake by around 300-400 calories I lost the 4lbs I'd gained plus some.  So...WLS does make PCOS better...it can make your cycles regulate and bring down other hormone levels to normal ranges...but PCOS never goes away.   Anyway, if you have more questions...feel free to ask! Oh yeah...and I wanted to let you know about another website out there...called www.soulcysters.com and it's a support/information website for women with PCOS.  If you check out the diet & exercise forum you'll see a thread on there called WLS Divas...we've all had/going to have WLS and all have PCOS.  Come check us out!
