Im going on accutane!!!!!!!!
Some of you may know what it is but for those who dont a quick over view...
It's an acne medication for a certain type of acne that is called "Nodular " acne...and also used for acne that will not go away with topicals and antibiotics.
The medicine REALLY WORKS infact celeberties often use this medication ( Jessica Simpson ..not proactive ) but the medicine has SERIOUS side affects!!!!!!!
Including brain damage in some pateints, suicide thoughts, severe depression, liver damage, delusions and hallucinations...etc You have to sign something contracts to swear to be on two different types of birth control because it will cause death or severe deformities to any pregnancy's even one month after you stop taking the medication. You of course can not donate blood during or one month after, and you have to do blood and mental tests every month before you get your refills.
But I have suffered from acne, boils and cystic ance for almost ten years and I have fair skin. I have many scars throughout my body...and I do mean EVERYWHERE.
Im just wondering if anyone else has been on this medication before?
I am on month 5 of it. It is by far one of the best things I have ever done. I have done years of ointments and minocyline. But I don't suffer from normal acne, mine was cystic and mostly on my jawline, they were becomming so frequent that every month I was getting injections, by the time one or two would heal new ones would be there, They hurt too touch, I would cry they were so bad. Finally my dermatologist allowed me to go on it, I am tested every month, I had my tubes cut about 5 years ago so he isn't concerned with pregnancy. My biggest bit of advice for you is to invest in jojoba oil and a chapstick (so far Carmex has won my vote) i have never had the dry skin associated with accutane cause every day i apply the jojoba oil especially around my nose. My biggest complaint is my lips, they have been chapped since day one and I do go thru bouts of them peeling and bleeding. I have a chapstick with me at all times, 2 in my car a few on my nightstand. they hurt but my skin looks soooo much better I can deal with the lips a few more months.

Awesome thank you SO much for answering!!!!!
I have SEVERAL types of acne which I NEVER had a problem with as a teen. Only after I become PCOS after my 1st child at 18.
My acne is EVERYWHERE and it ranges from cystic, to boils and so on and so fourth I know ALL about the pain and scaring is a big issue for me too!
Do you have before and after pics? I think Im going to take some just incase I ever want to let someone see the difference. Im hoping it will help me as much as you and others I know of. I get boils the size of golf to SOFT balls all over the place to the point sometimes that I cant walk.
Cosmetic doesnt even come close to being the reason but even if it were that would be enough in my honest opinion. Im just concerned with the side affects because im not the healthiest person right now. As a matter of fact I will soon be having gastric bypass due to my weight.
Again thanks for the response.
Brandi~
I am FAR from healthy, I suffer, PCOS, Multiple sclerosis, ulcers, acid reflux you name it. So I know what you mean, as for before and after i dont cause for the most part they were a monthly thing, and if i did have one I'd be damned if I'd let anyone take my pic lol. Plus i swear by mineral makeup so unless it has been a long day and the makeup as faded you may see a few brown pigmented areas, but i think alot of that fading has to do with the jojoba oil, i swear we call this liquid gold in my house.

Ok I won't laugh at you but I will laugh at the situation, my husband for one said I am not putting oil on my face it will clog my pores and make everything worse (he has rocesia (sp? anyway it isn't a dry oil I won't say it is, but I layer it on a small drop or 2 before bed, it does sink in and you will have such soft skin in the morning, My husband also mixes a drop with his mosterizer he has to use cause he gets that skaley type skin around his nose, I don't use it during the day cause it takes way too long to sink in, I am a mom of two, I don't have that kind of time lol. I buy mine on ebay cause i buy it in liters, But the first time I bought it I bought a smaller bottle from the vitamin shoppe. There is the name brand which is desert essence I think (don't hold me to that) and there is the vitamin shoppes brand (thats what I used) I believe it was about $6 give or take, You can use it for so much, I put it in my hair for a deep conditioning, or mix it with my lotion, I just love it, lol
can ya tell?
This is going to be a fun adventure for me, for sure...lol Yea I can tell you like it so Im going to try it. You know better than I and I have never had dry skin and certainly dont want to start now...get rid of one problem and gain another...no thanks..lol
I have a moisture lotion for my face I use daily so maybe I can mix it with that and pretend not to feel the difference :)
I'm not having much luck with the bare minerals, I've been experimenting with dermablend. But, right now my lesions are so full. When you got your injections, did you have "dents"? I did but now they've filled out again. I'm going on Accutane on the 23rd, and hope to get a few injections to make it through Christmas! It's comforting to find other people who are going through this type of acne! And to think I used to curse when I used to get an occasional pimple here and there...that's NOTHING compared to this!
