Anyone have any good recommendations for Birth Control now that having the surgery doesn't allow you to take pills?

Well...the NuvaRing or IUD would be best.  RNYers just don't absorb enough of the pill to be effective & the patch has soooo much estrogen....so my suggestion is either the NuvaRing (which is weekly) or the IUD (which is good for up to 5 years).  Or else there's always the Depo shot...but there's a high incidence of weight gain with the shot...all in all it's up to you on which form you choose.  Personally I have an IUD...and I love it...no muss...no fuss... Good luck! Kristy

I would suggest seeing a gyno as they know all the different types of birth control and they can put you on one that wont be detrimental to your success. I've been on the shot and let me tell you, it was a horrible experience, I gained at least 60 pounds on it. I've also heard after you get off it that it's harder to conceive (if you get off of it for that reason). My sister has the IUD, but they wouldn't put it in people who haven't had a kid yet, maybe your cervix hasn't stretched properly, who knows, but they are picky about it.

Depo shot causes infertility so if you want kids... DON'T get one.   My niece gained 20 pounds in 2 months after taking it and she is tiny.

I tried the nuvaring which is a monthly ring that is inserted.  I kept having break through bleeding is what they called it.  But I called it having 2 full periods a month.  So I went off of it and I'm trying Femcon now its a chewable birth control pill.  I'm still having the same problems.  I went from before surgery never having a period maybe 1 time a year to have 2 a month after my surgery.  Go figure.  I wanted the IUD but because I've never had any kids my ob/gyn would not insert it....said its usually too painful with someone whose cervix has not been stretched from having kids.  So, as far as recommendations I have no clue.  A lot of post wlser do use the nuvaring with no problems.  It just didn't work for me since I only wanted 1 period a month and not 2.  But so far nothing has. Good luck.
