Looking for some opinions re: possible PG

Hello, I don't post here often, but I'm hoping to get some opinions.  I do have PCOS and have for the past few years. I am on 1500mg of metforming a day and I am currently trying to lose weight. I really need to lose at least 50 lbs. before getting PG and I guess I figured with my PCOS just concieving will be tough.... well for about the last 6 months aunt flow has been pretty regular. If I am continuing my regular pattern I should have had AF sometime around last week. But still nothing.... so my period is MIA. I'm really bloated, a little crampy, have had an irratic appetite the past few days and have been very tired (but that's nothing new). If you were in my shoes would you do a home pregnancy test or wait it out another week. Part of me just wants to wait, and the other part of me wants to test now and if it's negative and still no AF action in a week test again.... ok, opinions??  I appreciate all responses, i'm at work so I won't be able to check on responses much, but I do get them delivered to my e-mail. So thanks so much for all responses! I really appreciate it! ~ Nikki (aka Dying to know!)

I agree...POAS!  If you've been regular...and AF is MIA for more than a week...TEST!  Let us know how it goes!  Good luck! Oh...and have you been to www.soulcysters.com ?  It's a great support website for women with PCOS & they have a very active TTC, Pregnancy & Mommy message boards! Kristy

Hi Lina and Kristy,  Well I got anxious and POAS 3 times now (went a little overboard) and negative all three times.... It appears as though AF is rolling in now though, guess she's just running late.  I know that I really need to lose a lot of weight before getting pregnant, but I just want to have babies so bad!  Kristy, yes I have checked out soulcysters.com I love the support there. And it's fun lurking around on the fertility and pregnancy boards! They are very informative! Thanks for the info and the support, hopefully i'll be getting some good quality babydust my direction soon!

You know it doesn't take much to kick start ovulation. I know this because I got pregnant after losing just 16 pounds with my daughter. I only had about 3 months of regular cycles. Also B12 helps with ovulation. Although I would give it another 6 months before I would actually "try" this way you lose most of the weight you want and you will be able to get more nutrition. Good luck to you because I have been where you are and I know its hard.   Paula

I did the whole baby fertility tracking, temp reading, needle sticking, panic routine for years and once I had lost weight, my AF started regularly, and voila!  I got a BFP about 3 weeks ago.  I'm so happy.  It's so good for you to work out (I go to curves 3/wk) and eat protein shakes when you're hungry.  You're going to do fine and let the baby blues go---I think it's better to just let go and let God!  You know you're gonna O sometimes a couple weeks from the first day of your period so keep hubby at bay until you're really itching for some action!  Thats what I did and it works!  I used to go to soulcysters but they were a bit too liberal for me.  I enjoy the baby pictures though and the labor stories. :)   I didn't care too much for all the blabber about fetal testing and so forth.  Yippie skippie.

Missing menstral cycles can be very alarming! I know! Last year (before my surgery) I didn't have a period for four months. But I wasn't pregnant. Since I had my surgery in March 07 I've had my period every month and they are starting to become more regular. My endocrinologist says that my PCOS is because of my obesity and he hopes that a year after my surgery that my body will be able to balance out and I can be PCOS free...or at the least my PCOS to be better off than it was. He said I could go on metformin if I wanted to but that it wasn't necessary for me unless I wasn't losing much weight with the surgery. So far so good. I am down around 80 lbs in 5 months. Not as much as some...more than others...but the main thing is its great for me. My husband had a vesectomy within before my surgery so if my period starts missing again I won't have to worry about being pregnant...but I'd still talk to my doctor about it. Good luck with everything.

I have to tell you that your Endocrinologist is backward.  Your PCOS is not because of your obesity; on the contrary, your obesity is becuase of your PCOS.  Your PCOS probably wasn't "visible" until you began to gain weight steadily and/or quickly.

Not slamming your Dr., just don't want you to be ill-informed or get hurt feelings from his comment.

Hi there!

You're going through what I have gone through with thinking, "Am I pregnant?" ... "Should I take a home pregnancy test?", etc.

Unfortunately, with PCOS there may be many times you "feel pregnant" but are not pregnant.  Don't get discouraged, just hang in there ... and buy a double or triple pack of home pregnancy tests!  :)

We have 5 children:  3 here with us on earth and 2 in Heaven.  And after our first 2 sons there were at least 10 other times I thought I "felt pregnant"!  I could hold stock in EPT or store brands of home tests.  Oh well.  :)

I've just had to have a Hysterectomy, so no more babies for us ...
