Question about PCOS and WLS?
Brandi,
I'm new to this forum but have had PCOS for over 30 years and didn't have acne when I was a teen either. I had my WLS 8/22/2002 and have lost 217lbs. My PCOS pretty much went away (except the dreaded facial hair - thank God for laser!)... I did have to have a hysterectomy last year and had a few pimples after that but they're gone now too... I don't know if this will help you, just another opinion... I hope things work out for you!
Take care!
Sheryl

Warning about PCOS and WLS. I was fine when it came to losing weight but once you hit your goal and you can eat more. Please watch your intake of white flour. You may think your PCO is gone but it isn't. I lost 140 down from 278. I didn't eat pasta or bread because I couldn't tolerate it and then all of a sudden I could and now I am having a hard time. I can't lose weight unless I give those up. Once you start it becomes one of those cravings. It also plays havoc on your blood sugar. I get hypoglycemia easily. Stay away from simple carbs and you should be fine. I flucuate now and I wish I never tried pasta. I am going to try the whole wheat kind and see how that does.
Oh yeah the acne is much better for me, although it wasn't horrible horrible. In general my skin is better. No dark patches and I am getting laser done. Anyway. its the best thing I have ever done. Good luck!

I just had a moment and came back to check this post... I stay away from white carbs also, mostly because I lost that 217 lbs and then gained about 20 back (within 2 years), it scared me... so now I'm on track again staying away from white carbs and eating more protein and waiting at least 30 minutes before and after I eat to drink. You'd think that 5 years out I'd know the rules but I did get off track and found myself going back to the old habits... ugh! Anyway, all this to tell you that I found a good whole wheat pasta and it has Omega-3 also, it's Barilla pasta and it's very good! I even fix it for my boyfriend and don't tell him, he doesn't know he's eating healthier... lol!
My laser treatments have been going well also, no dark patches, no scarring. It does sting a bit during the treatment and feels like a sunburn afterwards for a bit, but it is soooo worth it.
Ok, I'm done... lol! Have a great day!

Thanks for the reply here. I am going to try that pasta! I am over 2 yrs and I too found that I could tolerate foods I once loved but also were killers for me when it came to my weight loss. I am also trying harder to choose better. I am getting better but it is such a struggle. I am trying to go back to basics too. I eat more protien and am trying to say NO to anything that will get in my way. Sometimes I win sometimes I don't but more and more often I am winning. I am trying to keep busy so I keep my mind off of food. Its like I was becoming obsessed again. Anyway, I go and look at old photos and it gives me motivation. Lucky for me I have only put about 10 pounds on and I am nipping the habit in the bud before it gets too bad and out of control.
I can't wait to try the pasta with my family!
Take care!

Brandi,
I also have PCOS. Since my RNY surgery on 8/6/07 my body is totally back to normal!!! Normal periods. No acne. Facial hair has stopped growning. No more bloodsugar headaches. I am not sure how everyone else with PCOS is doing but, I know mine is 100% better since RNY!!! Good Luck and Happy Holidays!!
