So I have been stricken with PCOS since I had my first child at 18. My acne has continued to get worse and worse everyday! Of course the weight and missed cycles arent a piece of cake either but I didnt have acne as a teen and it REALLY bother's me to have it in the severity that I do at the age of 26. For those that have had WLS with PCOS...did your acne get better? I want to know if I need to continue with my endevores post op? Thanks Brandi~

Wow...that sounds like me for sure.  Only I was around 30 when my acne was at its worst.  I didn't have it in my youth either.  I had WLS just over 7 months ago, and I can tell you I get an occasional pimple here and there around my menstrual cycle.  Which by the way have been regular since having surgery.  They hadn't been regular in I can't remember when.  All of my PCOS symptoms have seemed to improve, save for the facial hair.  It's not stopped, but it's slowed down, and there's nothing new....so I suppose I can't complain.

Here's more hope for you...that is if you're planning at some point to have children.  My youngest child is 5 1/2 years old and had much trouble getting pregnant.  I'm now 7 1/2 months post op, and am 4 1/2 weeks pregnant.  We were actually using birth control methods, so it happened regardless.  Yet another symptom reduced by this surgery.

I've had PCOS for over 15 years but I was only diagnosed 9 years ago. I had RYN surgery 7 weeks ago and haven't seen a change in my skin but I don't really expect to. I've always seen specialist for PCOS and have found that how you take care of your skin (ie. makeup, skin cleaner, etc...) has a major influence on acne and how often you will break out. Mind you I get the occassional break out but I have used the best quaility makeup and skin care system for the last 4 years with maybe 3 break outs a year. I use Bare Minerals/Escentuals for makeup and Philosophy's Purity as a skin cleaner along with their line for moisturizer, etc.... Before I found Philosophy I used Murad's cleaner, toner, etc... but once I tried Philosophy Acne Kit I was hooked, its gentle, doesn't burn, skin doesn't peel, its the BEST!!! They have a new kit called The Schoolbook, that is wonderful I started that two weeks ago. You can buy the products at Sephora or online, but try them from Sephora if you aren't happy you can return them. PCOS does play a factor in your skin but what you put on it is VERY IMPORTANT!! Don't use makeup that's clogging the pores, once you try mineral makeup you'll see a difference in your skin within a week!! All The Best!!

Ive actually used the Bare Minerals line since I was 20 year's old so I too love Bare Minerals. I use perscription's for my acne and it's terrible. Im funny about my face and wash, mosterize and spf at least twice a day. I guess it just all isnt working anymore. I lost 22lb's a couple of years back and I noticed that alot of my symptoms starting to go away and I started getting regular again as well, untill I gained back the 22lbs and then some extra too. So I am looking forward to a change :)

Give the prescription acne medication a break for a while and try the Philosophy line. All too often doctors are quick to prescribe medication when a great skin care line will do the job for less money and much more gentle to the skin. ALL THE BEST!

201 pounds lost since surgery!! And I'm 2 1/2 inches taller too!!

And YES I still eat Carbs and Fats but I know what portion control is!!

I didn't attribute it until now, but my complexion is WAY better in the last 4 months than EVER before. I too had PCOS, might still but not getting anything tested for awhile.

4months out and 71 lbs down...... so far body seems to be working properly for once in my life!

Hi, I have PCOS and the best things for me are my Tazorac cream and my birthcontrol... Most acne related problems with PCOS are hormonal and the birthcontrol really keeps the hormones at bay. The tazorac keeps th pores small and the skin young. Talk to your derm and your gyno about specialized BC for your PCOS, it helps with many of the symptoms.
