PCOS and hysterectomy

My GYN said that when I had my hysterectomy (with both of my ovaries removed) that my PCOS symptoms would go away. The only PCOS symptoms that went away for me were my horrible periods. My other symptoms continued. I'm currently taking Metformin for my PCOS symptoms. If anyone else is being treated for PCOS and not trying to get pregnant - would you please share what you're doing to treat your symptoms and if it's working for you. Thanks!

OK I am not an MD but I am surprised you were told that!!!!  The cause of PCOS is insulin resistance the cysts on your ovaries are a symptom or a result of the PCOS.  THe only real way to treat PCOS is to address the insulin resistance.  THis can be done by meds such as Metformin or by losing weight which decreases the fat cells thus decreasing the insulin resistance.  I am not trying to get pregnant and I am taking Metformin and in the pre-op stages for RNY surgery.  As far as the other symptoms I just deal with them (acne, skin tags, body hair). Sorry, hope that helps~
