Struggling with birth control options..

I have no idea what form of birth control to use post op.  I don't have a date yet but I'm hoping to have one by the end of July.  Anyways, I've used Yaz to help with the lack of periods but they didn't work all the time and I actually conceived and m/c on Yaz.  I know some surgeons don't suggest you even use the pill afterwards because of absorption issues, if you do use them they want you to use a back up method as well but condoms aren't an option for us. I don't want an IUD because as soon as we get the greenlight i want to TTC sooo whats next??  I've never had to deal with this before soo I'm baffled.

There is a new chewable birth control pill called Femcon Fe.  That is what I just switched to.

Hey... I haven't had surgery yet... although I am hoping to before winter.  Anyhow, I have PCOS and Endometriosis.  My doctor recently implanted me with Implanon.  Its new to the US but has been used overseas for a while.  It's birth control that is good for 3 years.  In the office they implant it into your non dominant arm.  It bruised up good for about a week but then it was fine.  If you rub your finger across it you can feel it but other than that you don't even know its there. The only problem is that many doctors aren't certified to put it in yet.  They have to go through a class, it think it lasts 2 days, before they can be approved to do it.  Its my understanding that they are quickly getting people trained though.  While this thing lasts for three years, it can be taken out at any time. Hope this helps,  Crystal

Well...I have an IUD...but since you're not looking for that option...maybe the Nuvaring? Kristy

Personally... if I were you I would still think about that IUD.  Most surgeons seem to want you to wait 18 months to 2 years before you TTC.  If you have the IUD placed, you can always have it removed, once you have your greenlight. I'm planning on getting a tubal, but I have three children already (Two complete miracles and a clomid baby).   My own personal experience on Depo sucked.  I spotted or bled basically every day for 6 months, after 1 shot.  I never went back for the second one because for me the constant bleeding was a pain....  I am lucky to have one period a year (which I know will change after my surgery) but I couldn't handle the constant bleeding it was driving me crazy.

I'm worried about the IUD and ectopic pregnancies though. They run in my family and it's some what of a issue in my brain because I feel like it doesn't prevent pregnancy but just stops it from implanting in the right place. *shrug* maybe thats a misconception.

That's partly true.  I have the Mirena IUD...which releases localized hormones so that I don't ovulate...kinda like how the pill works but without having to go through the digestive system.  Plus...with the shape of it...it blocks most of the spermies from entering the fallopian tubes...and then of course because it's there...it does keep from implanting.  You're choice though...you have to go with what you're comfortable with.  Good luck! since I've had PCOS and lots of infertility issues, I've never taken anything.

A month before surgery I started the pill, then my  next period was DUE the DAY of my WLS.  I called doc and explained, they put me on the PATCH and let me start a week early to try and avoid my period.  I had breakthrough bleeding almost the entire month, but by the time my next month came around, surgeon said bcp's were small enough to start taking them again.

I've done fine since starting back on them.  I'm on Yasmin.

I had same issues, I didn't want anything that may hurt my chances long term as I do want more children.... as soon as it's safe to do so! (or to try anyway)
