I actually REJOINED OH.com to answer your question. I had WLS @ 24 for several reason but one of the main reasons was because I was told that it would break the horrid cycle of insulin resistance caused by PCOS. 4.5 years later (230#less TG) I have had a complete hysterectomy/double oopherectomy. I had to go back on Metformin about a year and a half after my WLS (RNYGB). I went to an Endocrinologist that said it is actually VERY common for patients with PCOS to have to go back on Metformin after WLS but very, very uncommon for patient with TYPE II DIABETES to ever have to return to those meds. See our ovaries our playing against us, and eventually they will catch on to what we've done to our body. I would ADVISE if you want to keep your weight off, hair/acne down and ever want to have children (if you don't have any) that you go back on the Metformin. There is no serious harm in being on it. Just do your research. I actually work at a Bariatric clinic here in my area, I am very passionate about bariatrics, but PCOS is near and dear to my heart. I lurk around OH to read what's going on out there in the bariatric communities, I try to stay off this board so I don't break my own heart. Learn from my road...
One month and six days after I married the man of my dreams that I wouldn't of ever had the nerves to walk up to without the gift of WLS, I had a ER hysterectomy. MY L ovary was the size of a regulation football and my R ovary was the size of a cantalope. (Who says that extra skin doesn't cover stuff!!) They had grown that large because I went OFF of my metformin on the advise of a Dr that was preparing me to become pregnant and said I wouldn't need it after WLS...
Studies showed... she said...
I had already had an ovarian wedge to remove all the cycts.
I would Take the Metformin, get rid of the acne and the 6 pounds and call it LIFE and love every minute of it and remember some silly girl on the internet...
