Hey everyone,                     I had surgery on April 17th. Everything went great. I actually have lost 22.5 pounds since then. But, I do have 1 problem. I have had my period ever since. I do have PCOS. This never happens to me. It did years ago but that was a long time ago. I am on birth control so it should have stopped by now. I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this with the surgery.                                  Thanks,                                Jenn

Jenn, I never was on bcps' until about a month before surgery.  Well it worked out that my period was due the DAY of surgery, I said no way am I going to deal with that and surgery, so my ob/gyn told me i could start the next month on the off week to try and avoid my period, in the same conversation, I told her I coudln't take pills for a month or so (even if they are small) so she also moved me to the patch.

3 days in the hospital was ok ,but man, as soon as I got home I had breakthrough bleeding for about 2 weeks, not bad, but enough to be a pain.

Needless to say, I'mback on pills and things are better.

I don't know if it is the patch or hte surgery, but I too had it.  Hang in there.

It is VERY common for many women to start their period following surgery, even if you finished 2 days before.  The trauma of surgery, the stress involved in the whole process, these are factors that can cause this.   I always had what I like to refer to as "abnormally normal" periods.  Two cycles of "I'm having my period?" followed by "I think my uterus just fell out."  I mentioned this when I in-processed for Navy recruit training and the doc recommended BCP's.  His advice allowed me the pleasure of 8 weeks of breakthrough bleeding!  LOL  When I mentioned this at an appt, I was assured that stress can cause this type of bleeding, or make it go away completely-at least for a little bit. The morning of my surgery, I am facing a room full of male nurses and I was a little embarassed to bring up my worry that I would start my period that day.  Embarassed was not the word after the biggest of the guys whips out one of those old-fashioned pads, the kind that seem as long as your arm-span?  He laughs and says, "We got ya covered!"  "Yeah, me and half the waiting room!" Hi Jenn, I have never posted on this page before but I wanted to tell you I have suffered from PCOS for gosh I don't 16 years and never had periods unless I took something to make me have one anyway, I started during WLS and didn't stop for 9 weeks afterwards. I am now 9 months post op and have regular periods every 28-30 days! It is just strange since it never happened before!  I mentioned to my doc and he thought it would work itself out and it did but since you are on birth control I would just mention it to my doc and see what he says! Good Luck!
