PCOS or not

Is there a specific test in determining if somone has PCOS? I am a soon to be lap bander. And up unitl now, I've never gone to the doctor for anything. For 10 years, I've been dealing with facial hair.  I did some laser removal, but never completed the treatments.  Now I just shave.  Also, for the last 6-8 years I've had hair loss. At first I really just ignored it, but now it's becoming really noticeable.  I do not have excessive hair growing anywhere else and I have always had regular periods.  I do not have any children, but haven't tried yet either.   Could this be PCOS or just a hormone imbalance? I'm kind of confused.

Usually for a diagnosis of PCOS there are 3 things done.  First a look at your menstrual history, then if needed blood tests to check your LH:FSH ratio & lastly a doctor may opt for an ultrasound of the ovaries to see how many cysts there are.  It sounds like it could be PCOS...check out www.soulcysters.com it's an awesome website dedicated to women with PCOS.  On one of the forums (I think it's the Newbies one) there's a thread by Kat (who runs the website) that describes the 4 types of PCOS. Good luck! Kristy
