Hello Cycsters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Ladies!
Wow do I fee like I am at home here!!!! I have been on OH for about two months but JUST found this message board tonight!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited to have access to so many fellow PCOSers. I had/have so many questions about WLS and PCOS but I did not feel they would be answered on the main RNY baord~
So thank you in advance for your support, answers, wisdom and insight
My biggest ? right now is about Metformin. I read that several people stopped taking it right after their surgery. Is this true for everyone?? I am on the Extended Release pills and they do not dissolve so I was thinking that I cannot take them after surgery anyway due to the liquid only diet. However, I have SEVERE insulin resistance and I am afraid of feeling horrible if I am off it all together. Any input would be great!!!
Thanks again!!!!!!!!!!!
Emily
Hey there...I had severe insulin resistance that eventually turned to diabetes. I stopped taking metformin the day before surgery & haven't needed to go back to it. Plus, right after surgery you can't take any pills, especially ones as big as metformin. You can only take liquid medicine in the beginning due to swelling of the pouch from surgery. Over time you should be able to take them again...but in all honesty...I doubt you'll need them.

I was told that you cannot take anything that is extended release after surgery. If it takes longer then 30 minutes then it is no use. I was taken off metformin the day of surgery and have since had my levels checked and my sugars are normal. I would share your concerns with your doctor and get his/her opinion.
