Provera induced periods

Hi there, I haven't had a period in eleven months. I finished my first round of provera (10mg every day times ten days) 48hours ago. How long until my "progesterone withdrawl" bleed happens?  I am fairly scared of what monster hemorrhage this first period will be. Don't know if eleven months without a period means I've got eleven months of lining stored u*****t.  Was really hoping I'd start over the weekend so maybe the worst would be over before I went back to work.  Haven't had any wls surgery yet, so rapid weight loss or gain isn't a factor here.  Thanks for any information or experience you have to offer.

It  ussually happens within a few days. Hold tight. If you should experience severe cramping and EXTRA long period let your doctor know.  I tried that and it made me have a period for 6 months.. heavy at that... very heavy. Dont let anyone tell you that is normal.  It may work for you but dont get down if it doesnt.  I have reached the point  where I cant take any  birth control pills, no patch no shots no IUD or anything. I am on Metphormen... though. You have to be real careful with it  because it is much easier to get pregnant... Im on the max dosage of 2500mg  a day ... 2 at breakfast.. 1 at lunch and 2 at dinner.  Luck y for me Im not doing anything  to get pregnant...  it surpreses you appitite... helps you have periods and  ussually you loose weight on it as well.. I hope this helps some.

I was using provera every three months for several years.  It takes about 2 to 3 days and mine were never very severe.  I didn't bleed for more than 3 or 4 days and didn't have much cramping at all.  Hope everything goes well for you as well.

I used Provera every three months for years and never had any major bleeding. It will take about 2 or 3 days and mine only lasted about 3 or 4 days in length. I never had any major cramping either. Good Luck, hope you have as good a luck as I did on it.

Hi there ladies! I also take Provera to induce my periods.   I usually take it every 1 1/2 months.  For me, they are usually VERY heavy, with severe cramping and a lot of large clots for the first few days (don't be scared ).  My doctor told me if I ever bleed through more than one super tampon per hour that I should sit down, put my feet up and call the doctor (this has only happened to me twice).  Some months I will start during the 10 days of Provera and some months I will start about 3-6 days after I finish the 10 days.  It usually last about 3-5 days.  I usually have cramping the day before I start and really sore boobs.  Take some Ibupofen and hang in there!  I hope this info helped...see ya on the flip side! Thanks for the responses.  I was just wondering when the gush was going to happen. Still no PMS type symptoms. No period. Hmmm. More time I suppose. Would hope my periods would be like MTown girls, but we'll see.  Appreciate the advice and quick responses.

I was one that Provera had little effect on.  I'd wait a few more days...but for me I would be lucky if I spotted for an hour...and that was after not having AF for nearly 3 years... Good luck!  The other ladies here gave you awesome responses! Kristy

Well, Still no period yet. Another day or two and I'll call the doc.. I'm five days out now.

Kristy, did they try anything other than provera to get your periods started again?

I just did my first round of Provera in January.  My gyn told me that if I did not start bleeding within 2 weeks of taking the last does to call her.  I started to bleed in about 5 days.  I had not had a period in over 6 months so I was also waiting to have a heavy period........however it was very light.   It only lasted 3-5 days and was no big deal :) Hope your goes well.......................

I was in the same situation as you are. In fact I will be starting provera next week. It definitly gets worse before it gets better. I was hard crapping and passed disidual tissue for almost ten days. After this period you shouldn't experiece as much discomfort.
