Well everyone I am pretty sure this is my first post.. It is so great to know there are others out there that are going through the same stuff as me. I am 26 years old and have been over weight my whole life. I have PCO or Poly cystic Ovarian Syndrom which makes the who dating thing a little differnt. I am sick or sad about not only being overweight but what is with the excess body hair.. NOT COOL. Why cant the bad people of the world have body hair instead of me?? Just a random question. What guy is able to look past the fact that his girlfriend has facial hair.. I dont even like my face to be touched or to laugh freely and tilt my head back in fear of seeing my facial hair.... Okay onto more happy things.. I recieved my approval from the insurance company on Friday the 23 of March. WOOHOO. I jumped up out of my chair and did a little cheerleader move with spirit fingers and everything... WOOHOO. I am starting my pre-op diet now.. and trying to figure out what I should be doing...Any ideas? I have went to my doctors website.. Dr. Todd. He is amazing. Should I start drinking protein shakes now and get use to my liqude diet now or what? I will be given a surgery date on Wednesday 28 at 10am... I feel like I am on my way to a new life.. I am so excited. What should I expect after sugery? I am having a laproscopic RNY. How much time should I be expecting to miss from work? I have a pretty lite job sitting at a desk answering phones so I was thinking including in hospital time like a week.. is that enough time? I am sure I have many more questions but I hope to hear from others on the issues I addressed first. Many prayers and blessings. Brittany

Hi Brittany!  Congrats on your approval!  I hope they can give you a surgery date that's in the VERY near future!  Anyway...I'd start adding in protein shakes & taking vitamins now to build up your stores since you won't be able to take any vitamins for the first week after surgery.  But as far as doing the liquid diet...unless it's required...I'd wait until you have your surgery date.  Last thing you want is to start your liquid only diet pre op & find out that you're surgery date is like a month away!  Of course you should also check with your surgeon to see what their requirements are.  Fortunately for me I only had to do a liquid diet the day before surgery.   As for time off of work...I'd take more than a week off.  I had a light desk job doing payroll (mostly just data entry) when I had surgery done and was out for 4 weeks.  I felt good enough to go back after 3, but was glad I had the 4 weeks off.  Not only to rest and recoup after a major abdominal surgery, but you're also learning how to eat again...and with trying new foods...the last thing you want to do is try a new food at work and get sick unexpectedly.  Of course your surgeon will be the one to really determine when you can go back as your employer should not allow you back to work without a work release from him.  If you have any other questions...just ask! Kristy
