PCOS sufferer waiting on Lap Band Date
I have struggled with PCOS since college and practically had to do my own research and tell my doctors what tests I needed. I suggested the Metformin to my Primary Care physician. I have been on the Metformin for about 6 months and it has helped a little with weight loss. I went on a low-carb diet and started going to Curves and lost 60 lbs but it is steadily creeping back on along with significant cramps and pain. I decided ot have the Lap Band and it has been quite a journey getting approval from teh insurance company. I am hoping with the Lap Band, exercise, and Moetformin I can finally get 100-125 lbs off and keep it off. It cna get discouraging though. i had the worst cramps of my life the other day (so bad they induced vomiting and other unplesant things :( ) I am glad I found this board PCOS women have a very unique plight with wight loss and pain. Anyone have any suggestions on the cramps and anything other than laser surgery for the hair ?
I have bad cramps too. Since I had lap band surgery last June (2006), I have lost 80 pounds. No one told me, but my periods were outrageous after my surgery. I hadn't had a cycle in 6 months and 2 days after surgery I had a 30 day period. I called the surgeon and was told that abdominal surgery can trigger periods. After starting back on bc, I did the Nuvaring. Everything was fine for 2 months and then I had another 35 day cycle with severe bleeding/clotting/cramps. I have been on Lo-ovral for 2 months now and the cramps are gone and the flow is light. I hope it stays that way.
My cramps were so bad. I had to take darvacet (SP?) and break it.
There are drugs for hair. One of them is a blood pressure medicine, can't remember the name of it. I took it and couldn't tell a difference. I couldn't tell a difference on Metformin except it made me have panic attacks. One doctor would tell me I needed it and another would say I didn't.
I just wonder if the weight loss has been enough to make my cycles normal. I am afraid to try it with out birth control.
