Hi Everyone... I am new to this board I had lap rny 3/12/07 doing really good so glad I decided to do this! I have actually lost about 19 pounds (I gained 12 in the hospital with all the fluids they were pummpin in me) I know this surgery is going to change so much for me it already has!  So I have PCOS and hypothyroidism I currently take synthroid every morning I have been faithfully taking it since Dec and I started a period on my own for the first time in a very long time before wls we were ttc and I would take metformin, actos and provera to try and ovulate...And everyonce in awhile I would get a period from that ****tail... So since I have been taking the synthroid like I should I started a period! It was really good started slow then increased then it tappered off so I thought... that lasted about 7 days...about 3 weeks ago! This monday will be 4 weeks that I have been spotting its not heavy I dont need more than a pantyliner but when I go to the bathroom there are usually these little clot looking things floating around and when I wipe there is blood.  So now that I am losing weight...am I just going to continue to have a period that will never stop for who knows how long??  Im not complaining its been so long since I have had a period on my own like I said and when you are trying to start a family if you dont have a period its not gonna happen so this means everything to me it gives me so much hope to know that in a few years after my weight stables out I may just get to be a mom!  Just wanted to know if anyone else has expierenced any thing like this...

I know it sounds like you were already on your period before suregery but most women continue or start after surgery. The surgery could have more to do with it then anything.

You can check with your MD, I haven't had the surgery yet, but I have heard that as you lose weight, the estrogen that was stored in your fat cells releases and you have a surge of hormones that can invite many periods.  But my best advice is to call MD.  I hope youa re on BCP too because you can get VERY fertile after WLS but shouldn't TT****il 12-24 mos (depending on the MD)

First of all..congrats on your surgery!  Secondly...whacky periods are fairly normal in the beginning because as the other lady said...estrogen is stored in fat cells & now that you're loosing weight your body is releaseing that stored up estrogen.  Over time your cycles will start to regulate.  In the mean time...if you're having heavy bleeding for long periods of time call your OB and see what can be done...I mean...we don't want you becoming anemic now.  I went from zero cycles as a pre op to regular 36 day cycles with ovulation at 12 months out and was able to get pregnant for the first time in 9+ years at 16 months post op.  Anyway...good luck & let me know if you have any other questions...I'll try to help! Hello Pookynator06!            I haven't had my surgery yet, but, like you, I couldn't have periods on my own without drug intervention. However, whenever I did lose the smallest amount of weight (usually 6-7 lbs), my period would "jumpstart". It was the craziest thing I had ever seen. I was one of those who would go years without a period! It was also temporary though. I would regain those few pounds within the month and not have another period again until I lose those same exact pounds. Thus, the viscious cycle continues... God, I am so grateful for you guys knowing what I am going through. Good Luck, Honey, I sure am rooting for ya!
